Mountain village Lefkara, Cyprus - part 1
This year (before the coronavirus) I was invited by my relative to dinner with them.
She lives with her family in the mountainous village of Lefkara.
The average height above sea level is 480 meters.
Lefkara is about 35 km away. from the city where I live.
Lefkara, translated from Greek means: "white" and "mountains, hills".
The rocks of Lefkara are rich in limestone and silicon dioxide, which give the mountain slopes a white color.
In Lefkara, most of the houses are built of limestone, and the streets are also paved with it.
This mountain village used to be home to 118 people, according to the 2001 census.
But when I was at the Lefkara festival in 2019, the population of the village was only 100 people.
Residents are gradually leaving for the major cities of Cyprus and other countries ...
There are old houses in Lefkara that have survived from the 10th century.
In this post I will show pictures of the village view from the hill.
I used to be very afraid to drive on such narrow and winding roads that run up the mountain.
But over time I got used to it :-))
In my next posts, I will continue to introduce you to this wonderful, small, mountainous village.
The photos I were taken with a Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L tablet
