Archery- Bows and Arrows- Hits the spot!-Moalboal-Cebu-Philippines

Hi Hivers!

Today I''m feeling like Robin Hood!
IMG6041.jpg

It's always nice to try something new, to challenge yourself a little bit and see if you can master a new skill. @manoldonchev posted an archery post recently and it got me thinking.
IMG6058.jpg
So we decided to visit a friend of ours who has an archery place here in Moalboal in the Philippines.
IMG6057.jpg

I am ashamed to say he's been inviting me for 5 years and I was always too busy to go. I really regret this now. I had no idea just how much fun it is and lets face it, I'm not exactly overwhelmed with work at the moment so no excuses. It's only a 10 minute ride around the corner so off we went.

IMG6060.jpg

There's something instinctive about a bow and arrow that is quite different to firing a rifle. I scored marksman a few times and have awards for that back when I was a young whipper snapper in the Air Force.

IMG6053.jpg

Archery feels different. Very different.

IMG6040.jpg

Something about the whole mechanics of it that feels natural. It almost feels like an extension of you. You start to get a feel for it and go with what you feel. Your instincts. You really have to trust your instincts. And it's so satisfying hitting the target. Especially if it's the corona virus!

IMG6042.jpg
There's an array of different targets here , fake animals, regular targets with images of different things on them. Makes it fun.

IMG6043.jpg
You May have noticed in the photos I am shooting both left and right handed. I play pool, write and shoot a rifle left handed but racket sports and throwing right handed so i wasn't sure. Found out I can do both ways but was more accurate left handed. Felt natural to me either way. I am a bit weird.
green.jpg

ahhhhhh GIANT SPIDER!

IMG6045.jpg

I'll get it, relax 😉

IMG6063.jpg

Saved the day!

IMG6064.jpg
Well it was a nice break from the norm in a beautiful setting. There's also accommodation there in a kind of glamping Rustic style
IMG6065.jpg
Lots of different accommodation. Fan/ aircon, large and small.
IMG6066.jpg

and really small for the budget minded. It's a lovely place.

Maybe soon when things open up again it will be full of adventurous backpackers and would be Robin Hoods!

Thanks for reading, stay safe out there people wherever you may be on the planet. Take care.

Ciao!

Bee living in Moalboal for nearly 7 years now. Usually a very busy little place, very quiet now

Yeah, it's because of pandemic but when this is over for sure it will be crowded again. People are kicking to be in a pretty place.

hope so. Alot of businesses here won't survive this. Hoping they will allow us to operate under MGCQ

True because if they will let you operate. A lot of people will be there and loves to party again. I don't know what to say for our situation but let's hope this will be over.

my business is diving not so much the partying ;) Theres people who are here full time tht want to get back in the water. Just being able to take them would be enough for now. I agree lets hope we come through this soon. By the way you made my Friday Filipino Five and I'll be posting that tomorrow. Think I'll post it on #hiveph this time as its Philippines oriented :)

Easy to notice that you were shooting both left and right...I mean...left-handed and right-handed. I think this is one thing that you can learn the way you choose. Or both. One of our bows allows that, too. The other one...not so much.

By the way, here's some more heretical experience of mine...

Arrows fly quite well if you throw them. It seems. A crossbreed between a spear and a dart ;) But archery people might not like that.

I hope nobody over there gives up on their place and hopes. One good thing is...they are with the sea, at least. And we hope we can get to one next week. See how our sea people are doing.

Cheers!

That's good, too :) I think I will be making some archery ranges when I start spending more time around the yards here and there.

That's really cool, I've been thinking about making a bow for a while now, maybe it's time.

I was genuinely surprised at how intuitive it is and that combo of mind and body is kind of addictive. If you make one post it I'd love to see the finished product

Oh yeah! If I get the right wood I'll record the process. Here in Brazil there are bows made of laminated bamboo, some people reinforce with fiber+epoxy, butit kinda defeats the purpose. Gotta try and see.
