Street Art #309 Marc-Olivier Lamothe, Montreal

(Edited)

This edition of Mural Festival was really different from previous years, few works were presented. The last mural was done by Marc-Olivier Lamothe on the main area of the Festival and erased the mural made last year by muralist typographer Ben Johnston (see the photo at the end of this post) :

I'm a bit disappointed by this edition but with the covid, the organizers had to go online with many concerts and artistic performances broadcast live on Instagram. In addition, they couldn't as in previous years invite international artists, this brings new and different styles on the walls of Montreal. I can't wait for the next edition and I hope without the Covid or with a vaccine.

My next posts will be on the 25th edition of Under Pressure with beautiful murals from the Montreal Street Art scene. Great stuff...

WHO

Born in Sherbrooke (160 km east of Montreal), Marc-Olivier Lamothe is visual artist based now in Montreal. He studied in infographics before starting as a first job in an advertising company. Now, he's an illustrator and painter (first solo exhibition in 2018 with Playful Chaos).

He uses geometric forms and vivid colors in a two-dimensional space in order to create an amusing and chaotic universe, the objects seems to float in space with one color background. He did his first mural in Sherbrook in legal wall, and he participated to the Mural Festival 2019 (you can see this mural on Street Art #263).

On this work, Marc-Olivier Lamothe was invited to paint his universe inspired by Quebec.

"I wanted to create a fun, summery world... The idea was to represent the extent of the territory, I didn’t want it to be centered on Montreal." - Marc-Olivier Lamothe (Source : MuralFestival.com)

A very interesting piece. To be honest, I didn't like it at first... But once you drew my attention to its details, I realized how expressive the whole thing is.

I'm not fan too of this style (a little bit like Matisse and his paper cuts) but it's colorful with many details :

Among all the murals I've seen from you, I think this one is my favourite. I love how pleasantly wonderful and vibrant it is, not to mention all the little details that begin to unravel the longer you look at it! ❤️

First I'm not fan but with all the details, it's cool to look at it more closely and see the impressive work.

It's certainly a mural that gets better the longer you stare at it :-O

Colorful and detailed, though the geometric forms is not exactly my favorite style...but the way you show us the detales from Montreal it gave a new meaning. One can only hope that there will be more control on the covid situation, making the Mural festival possible :) Here too, no international artists have been invited... but the local artists have been very productive ... :)

Yep local artists have been busy too here but it's cool to see different styles coming from all around the world. The artistic scene is more stimulated... maybe next year.
