Los Antiguos (parte 16)
―Los módulos de alguna forma usaron energía de vació para tratar de revertir el colapso de la estrella ―explicó Norman Petersen, físico teórico de la academia de Dione.
―Y que hay de las altas medidas de roentgenio, tal vez un intento por reabastecer de combustible a la estrella ―preguntó Elmer Gouveia, uno de los astrofísicos a bordo de la Arquímedes, quien observaba, vía un enlace cuántico, la explicación de Petersen, quien se encontraba en la BN34.
―No lo creo, me parece que más bien era todo lo contrario, a mi parecer, el roentgenio era un subproducto de su intento por reducir los elementos pesados del núcleo de la estrella ―explicó Petersen ―. Tal vez intentaban disminuir la presión de la gravedad, sobre el núcleo, usando la energía de vacío, mientras, por algún mecanismo que aun no entendemos, retiraban los elementos pesados y luego los sustituirían por hidrogeno.
―No entiendo cómo puede eso revertir el colapso ―comentó Natalia Benavides, una estudiante de física experimental, bajo la tutela de Vicentelli ―. Disculpen mi pregunta, pero no se trata de mi especialidad.
―En realidad, yo tampoco comprendo mucho el mecanismo, por el cual pretendían que esto funcionara ―explicó ―. Es posible que por eso no haya cumplido con su cometido y el resultado sea el que ya conocemos. Tal vez haya sido una medida desesperada.
La proyección tras Petersen, mostró una representación vectorial, de la, esfera de contención, como fue denominada, por su efecto de contención del colapso de la estrella, en ella, vectores direccionados hacia el núcleo, indicaban la presión ejercida por la gravedad sobre éste, mientras que otros direccionados desde el interior del núcleo hacia su frontera, representaban la presión ejercida por la energía de vacío.
―Como es obvio, el intento de contener el colapso, falló ―continuó Petersen―. Pero creo que el uso de masivas cantidades de energía de vacío, en el núcleo estelar, creo este extraño estado en el que. el colapso en una singularidad ha sido evitado, sustituyendo la presión de degeneración de los quarks, por energía de vació, dando lugar a esta estrella negra.
―Eso explicaría porque nunca antes habíamos hallado algo como este objeto ―intervino Vicentelli desde Arquímedes ―. Simplemente su origen no es natural, es el producto de un desafortunado experimento.
―Eso creo yo también ―continuó Petersen ―. No creo que esto pueda ocurrir sin intervención tecnológica.
―Excelente Dotor Petersen, agradecemos su colaboración en esclarecer esta situación ― concluyó Vicentelli ―. La misión de la Arquímedes ya está por concluir, pronto estaremos enviando, toda la data que hemos recabado, luego de eso la misión de astrofísicos retornaremos a la BN34, para continuar allá con el análisis de los datos.
―Estoy seguro que el doctor Horacio estará encantado de escuchar esa noticia, a su regreso de Dione ―respondió Petersen, para luego despedirse y cerrar la transmisión.
Vicentelli se embutió en su cubículo dormitorio, el diminuto habitáculo, no era más que una de varias aperturas en la pared, donde se entraba deslizando el cuerpo con la cabeza por delante, en el panel sobre su cabeza oprimió el botón que cerraba la entrada y permaneció recostado en la oscuridad por algunos minutos, pensando sobre las conclusiones a las que se había llegado, mientras por su mente sólo rondaba una idea, que puede llevar a una civilización, que obviamente dominaba el viaje espacial, a tratar tan desesperadamente de salvar a un mundo que obviamente no podía ser rescatado.
Porque invertir tanto esfuerzo y recursos, en una empresa que era claramente una causa perdida. Por que simplemente no emigraron a otro planeta, más aún, si como se especula, los antiguos eran seres biotecnológicos, capaces de desplazarse por si mismos entre planetas. Por qué quedarse y perder la vida aquí.
Tal vez mi mentalidad de humano, no me permite entender esto, pensó, en nuestra impronta ya está gravada la necesidad de colonizar otros mundos, de propagarnos por la galaxia para prevalecer como especie.

The Ancients (part 16)
-The modules somehow used vacuum energy to try to reverse the star's collapse - explained Norman Petersen, a theoretical physicist at Dione Academy.

The projection after Petersen showed a vectorial representation of the containment sphere, as it was called, due to its containment effect of the star's collapse. In it, vectors directed towards the nucleus indicated the pressure exerted by gravity on it, while others directed from the interior of the nucleus towards its border represented the pressure exerted by vacuum energy.
-Obviously, the attempt to contain the collapse failed - continued Petersen-. But I believe that the use of massive amounts of vacuum energy in the stellar core created this strange state in which the collapse into a singularity was avoided by substituting vacuum energy for the degeneration pressure of the quarks, giving rise to this black star.
-That would explain why we've never found anything like this object before, -Vicentelli intervened from Archimedes-. It's simply that its origin is not natural, it's the product of an unfortunate experiment.
-I think so too- continued Petersen-. I don't think this can happen without technological intervention.
-Excellent Dotor Petersen, we appreciate your collaboration in clarifying this situation - concluded Vicentelli -. Vicentelli went into his sleeping cubicle, the tiny room, which was only one of several openings in the wall, where he entered by sliding his body with his head in front of him, on the panel above his head he pressed the button that closed the entrance and remained lying in the dark for a few minutes, thinking about the conclusions that had been reached, while in his mind only one idea haunted him, which could lead a civilization, which obviously mastered space travel, to try so desperately to save a world that obviously could not be rescued.
Because to invest so much effort and resources, in an enterprise that was clearly a lost cause. Because they simply didn't migrate to another planet, even more so, if, as speculated, the ancients were biotechnological beings, capable of moving between planets by themselves. Why would they stay and lose their lives here.
Perhaps my human mentality, does not allow me to understand this, he thought, in our imprint is already taxed the need to colonize other worlds, to spread throughout the galaxy to prevail as a species.
