Venezuelan Stamps Special / Philately Week (Orchids)

Hi Hivers, first of all I want to apologize to you, I failed philately week. But everything is to organize better the projects that I am planning, everything is going well, if you want to know what I am doing, go to the next publication.

While I will continue with what I promised, the Venezuelan philately week, this entry will be about tropical flowers. Venezuela has one of the most privileged tropical climates, it has fabulous coasts towards the Caribbean Sea, it has the oldest lands of the planet as it is the case of the Gran Sabana, there is part of the great system of the mountain range of the Andes, we have a hot average climate that allows the existence of hundreds of thousands of vegetal species.

The flora is one of the most beautiful things we can offer the rest of the world, in fact as a nature photographer I have dedicated many publications to the orchid, the national flower of Venezuela, and that is what today's post is about.

The postal and telegraphic services institute has dedicated a series of stamps to the national flower, Venezuela has perhaps the most beautiful orchids on the planet, I have personally seen orchids from all over the world but like those from South America there is none more beautiful, modesty aside for being Venezuelan xD. But even in Estampillas these flowers look beautiful.

This selection is not complete, there are 10 stamps with orchids that have been exposed in different flower events. I will try not to be so technical, my interest is that you know the name and name something special about the flower.

Scuticaria steelei is the first flower of this issue, it is a native orchid from South America, it grows a lot in the state of Amazonas.

Acacallis cyanea is native to South America but is found in countries such as Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela, Brazil being the country where this beautiful species is most abundant with shades of white to purple.

Scaphyglottis stellata, is found more in Central America, in Venezuela is a very delicate species however many people manage to keep these beautiful specimens alive.

It is worth mentioning that in the city where I grew up which is part of the Amazon jungle it is common for people to have orchids in their homes, this flower is not planted, the roots are carefully tied to a rotten trunk and left in a place near a shady tree, others tie the roots to the trunks of mango trees that offer a very cool shade.

Maxillaria rufescens is a type of orchid that is found in many countries, including Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela and Colombia. Its yellow color is almost like seeing gold depending on the lighting conditions.

Comparettia falcata is perhaps the most common orchid found throughout Central and South America. It is also known as magenta whirlpool or magenta drizzle.

Zygosepalum labiosum is a rare species that can be found at over 1300 meters above sea level.

The quality of the images is acceptable considering the size of the stamps. Ll magic is the diversity of flora that we have in this land that Indian travelers and Catholic priests in 1500 told in their writings as Eden, heaven on earth.
