Beer Review

Pecan Pie Porter is an 8% American Porter made by Clown Shoes in Boston, Massachusetts. Clown Shoes started in 2009, when Founder and CEO Gregg Berman brewed a successful small batch collaboration with Ipswich Ale Brewing under the name of “Hoppy Feet” Black IPA. From there, Gregg decided to team up with Head Brewer Dan Lipke to create additional, unique craft beer recipes. Pecan Pie Porter is an American Porter meant to be reminiscent of the decadent pie itself, with a rich, caramel nut flavor.

The Can

Pecan Pie Porter is served in a 16 ounce pint can. It had some extremely detailed can art as you can see in the photo above. A warrior sits and shoves his face full of pecan pie while dressed in his shining coat of metal armor. The top of the can notes that this is a Limited Release brew from Clown Shoes. It's certainly a great dessert beer, and would obviously pair great with a real slice of warm pecan pie.

The Beer

Pecan Pie Porter was a thick, dark color when I poured it into a glass. A small head of foam dissipated quickly. At 8% alcohol content, it was a strong porter with a bit of a bite. The alcohol was masked by a sweet, nutty caramel flavor, with hints of coffee and cocoa. Overall, it's a unique, and tasty porter, though quite heavy. It's not something to drink a lot of. This was my first time trying a beer from Clown Shoes. I look forward to trying more in the future!

Pecan pie Porter is a great beer - I'd completely forgotton about Hoppy Feet - that was (probably still is) a great beer
