THE WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH!

It's almost 5 AM now and I should be sleeping now. 6 hours ago, I was supposed write for an entry here on Hive which I will be posting tomorrow and respond to replies but then an unexpected problem happened. The screen of my laptop began blinking white.

Oh snap! Here goes a new problem!

The first thing I did was restart the laptop hoping it will fix the problem but of course, it didn't work. Then I thought of shutting it down because it could be due to overheating since it had been on for around 15 hours already. Lol. So I switched it off and let it cool for several minutes. I turned it on and expecting the blinking will be gone. It didn't.

This is no simple problem, I told myself. I began to panic in my head. Is this it? Is it time to say goodbye? How about my files? Lol. I was so worried.

As usual, the first thing I go to when I encounter problems with my laptop is no other than Google sensei, the source of all knowledge. Though I guess not because I didn't find a clear solution. And so I proceeded to the second source of knowledge, the land of tutorials, Youtube shishou. There were tons of tutorials available but most recommend opening the laptop and checking the cables or cleaning the board. They have a second monitor to check and some even go as far as using a voltage tester. I don't have those! Then I found one in the comments to try pressing "D" while pressing the power button. I think I did it wrong because my laptop made a beep four times and began blinking randomly which made me panic. 😂 I tried it again to do the correct way but it still didn't work. It has lots of comments that says it worked so I tried it. Ugh.

It made me more frustrated as I kept searching and watching tutorials for several minutes or perhaps hours, trying to find a different solution. Until came across this video which has 700k+ views. I opened it and watched the entire video. He has a couple of solutions for the blinking white screen but the one I decided to follow was the 2nd solution. It's the easiest to follow and actually the only thing I remembered. I have to charge my phone so I can't bring it with me here near on my laptop and watch the tutorial step by step.

While my screen is blinking white, so white it hurts my eyes, I bravely opened the system configuration and disabled the Windows Error Reporting Service and Problem Reports and Solutions. Clicked 'ok' and 'apply'. Then a pop up box telling you to restart the laptop appeared. The screen is still blinking while the laptop is restarting and I was already beginning to feel hopeless to resolve the problem. Until I got into the log in page, I noticed the blinking was gone.

Well, the blinking stopped and I was already almost finished writing this post until the blinking began again. I repeated the steps and the blinking is gone again. And after a few minutes the blinking returned. Dang! Should I try the other solutions? If this don't get resolved then it is going to be a big hassle while drawing. As much as possible I don't want to spend right now, much more for a new computer! If nothing really works then I have to open the laptop and try my luck fixing it. 😭

Can anyone here has a better solution that surely works?

:(

I'm not a tech savvy but I do my own troubleshooting and consult google sensei too. I think the problem lies along the hardware issue and not the software. Just means you're better off having it checked by a specialist. If you need a change of LCD, the price can vary depending on laptop model and brand. I use a lenovo and it cost me around 3-5k php to have it replaced.

I'd still opt for a new laptop if your model is more than 5 years old. There are bound to be cheap and decent models in the market now from models released a few years ago.

The least I wanted to happen is to replace the hardware because..money. 😂
I'm planning to get a new laptop or desktop someday when I have enough fund for it. That's why I'm doing my best here too. 😁
Is lenovo a good brand too? I'm using acer.
