Art #31: My Dream High School Hairstyle

avatar

I am back for the second time of being away for about two weeks. Can't access my laptop due to screen/graphics card/graphics driver problems but now my external monitor had arrived so I can access my files again and also resume drawing and blogging. My new monitor is also bigger than my laptop's monitor which makes it more fun to draw.

What I'm sharing with you today is a drawing I made around last month. While thinking of what to draw for LiSA's birthday last June 24th (Art #29: A Bouquet of Flowers for LiSA | Birthday Fan Art), her hair reminded me of the hairstyle I've been wishing to have during high school.

Straight and Corrugated Hairstyle

Back when I was in high school was the era of super straight hairstyles and red highlights. The punk
and emo vibes of Avril Lavigne and Hayley Williams and the Asian-level of hair straightness. I love these ladies but I'm glad I wasn't influenced that much by them. It was a girl from a show I'm watching on Discovery Channel who inspired me to dream of this specific hairstyle.

Her hair was super straight black hair while the tips was flaming red and corrugated. It reminds me of the Nova chips, a local chips I love. 😂 It looks different but kind of nice, my high school self find it really cool. The way the corrugation was styled was so clean and perfect. Since then, I dreamed of having that hair, although I never had the chance to style my hair that way because,

  1. Going to the salon to have your hair straightened, styled, and colored is expensive for my poor high school a**.

  2. School does not allow dyed hair. You'll have this image of being a delinquent or rebel.

  3. Parents might get mad because you're ruining your hair but the number 2 is the actual reason.

Will I still get this hairstyle and color right now if given the chance? No. I no longer wish for a hairstyle that needs regular maintenance although I still wanted to try dyeing my hair at least once in my life. If given the chance, I want it to be a shade of one of these colors: blue, purple, green, or grey. Ah, I remember I had a red cellophane on my hair back in college which only turns red when hit by sunlight. It's the closest thing I had for a hair dye. Lol.

Looking on the drawing, I drew the girl facing the side to have a better view of the corrugated style on the tip of the hair. Well, it's also a chance to practice drawing a side profile. I also tried to experiment with the lighting but I'm just not sure if it came out nice.

Drawing Process

I am not confident drawing side profiles, I'm just glad I saw someone on Instagram drawing a side profile of Tanjiro, a character from Demon Slayer, and that gave me the courage to draw this piece. As usual, I went for my usual process though I surprisingly spent more time, probably because I don't usually draw side profiles.

I always wanted to have curly hair...
