(ESP-ENG) El verdadero mundial está por empezar // The real World Cup is about to start!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
We are getting closer and closer to the end of Qatar 2022 but that also means that the World Cup is becoming more and more like that tournament where we see the great teams of the world facing each other and that we are, at least I am, so used to seeing for a few years now. Undoubtedly this World Cup has been a bit atypical in the sense of big surprises, we did not expect teams like Australia, Senegal and the United States to reach the round of 16 but they did it playing a soccer that helped them to leave behind other teams that could have been assured a place just because of their name. But well, we realized that in such a short tournament nothing is written and that is its magic, whether we like it or not.
This weekend saw the beginning of the round of 16 which would lead us to the first two quarterfinal matches to be held on Friday and Saturday. Netherlands - Argentina and France - England are the matches we know so far and they are already starting to look a bit like what we wanted to see. Four teams, two of which could be considered favorites and the other two a little bit in expectation of how the matches will turn out. Is it unexpected that any of these teams have made it this far? - Not really, especially if we consider the road they had to travel, an "easy" one so far.
- [Países Bajos vs Argentina]
We have landed in the first match of the quarterfinals where we will have the game of a selection that is extremely effective and forceful against the other that likes to have the ball, roll it from one side to another until the time to filter it and make the goal, either by a collective game or by a genius of some of its stars, being the second way the common denominator of their goals lately. The match of the Albicelestes against the Australians was one in which we honestly saw a far superior Argentina that managed a large part of the match at will, I say large part because that lasted 70-75 minutes because in the last fifteen minutes the pressure of Australia was such that they managed to discount a 2-0 and in their hands they had the goal of the tie. Scaloni's team fell asleep in a very surprising way and they almost got it, I do not want to say that they were confident but it is true that they relaxed more than they should have.
The path of the South Americans has not been easy, they had to suffer to get to where they are, a mishap that nobody expected, the defeat against Arabia, but little by little they have managed to reactivate the game we saw in the Americas Cups and in the qualifiers and I must say that I see them as serious candidates to win the cup, except for some mistakes, the state of mind, which I have already said several times, is vital for the performance of this team. Now they have to dance with one of the ugliest teams, the Netherlands, who have proven to have a game that is not showy at all but it is very efficient and direct under Van Gaal, who was the one who changed this team in the last few years, since the level they had been playing was very pitiful.
The Netherlands as I said have proven to be a team that does not need possession and to stifle their opponents with passing and associated play to win games and the proof of that was their match against the United States in the round of 16. It was a game where they had less possession, made fewer passes and came in less than their opponents and yet their victory was a solid 3-1 win that could confound anyone. These Europeans have an ace up their sleeve and that is their inside right, Denzel Dumfries who plays for Inter, he is a real bullet, he has speed but he also has vision and above all goals, I don't know if he was the MVP of that game but he took all the spotlight. I don't know if he was the MVP of that game but he took all the spotlight. It is from this player and Depay's volatility that Argentina's central defense should take care and not fall asleep as they seem to be used to do.
I still believe they are at a level that unless a tragedy does not happen, I do not see them losing so easily despite what we saw in the opening round. Clearly the Netherlands are not Australia or Poland but I think that with their heads in the right place, it is possible that we will see the dream semi-final of the World Cup, as long as nothing happens on Brazil's side, of course. It will be a great game, of that I have no doubt because they are two totally different styles of play and the winner will be the one that best captures it on the field on Friday.
- [Francia vs Inglaterra]
France has everything to repeat what only two teams in the world have been able to achieve, winning two World Cups in a row and part of that everything has a name and surname, Kylian Mbappé. That a player in two World Cups has more goals than Cristiano and the same as Messi who has 5 World Cups behind him helps us to dimension what this player is capable of doing, the thing is that one as one follows him week after week may seem irrelevant to us that achievement but the reality is that it is a barbaric statistic. France came to the World Cup with two vital absences, Kanté and the golden ball Benzema, many thought that these absences were going to weigh on them but the story was different, in adversity they put their chest out with players like Rabiot and Giroud who have managed to maintain the high level of this selection.
The game against Poland was a playground for the French and as I said on several occasions the Poles had absolutely nothing to offer or to fight against a team like France. Mbappé's display of play was huge and he scored a couple of goals that I am sure will go to the showcase of this World Cup, there is a high level in that team, Griezmann's performance is very good and Giroud is more than a nine in the box, the way he drags the marks and plays as a pivot with his back to the goal is vital for the French attack. He has his stuff but with Argentina, watch out for them.
Keep an eye on England, who may very well be the "dark horse" of this World Cup. I have really liked what I have seen from the English despite the fact that many still consider them a cold team without personality. In this World Cup they have given great demonstrations, against Iran, against Wales and yesterday against the tough Senegal. While it is true that they read those names and it seems that they are not very big what has been seen from those led by Southgate has been quite good. Rashford, Foden, Bellingham, Kane, Saka, Sterling and Grealish are some of the names that throughout this World Cup have left their mark on this new generation of the English national team that I would dare to say is the best they have had in a long time, the quality that this squad has name by name is the best of the cup.
It will also be a great match, the real and I think the first test of fire that both teams will have in this World Cup, hence I say in the title of this publication that now is the beginning of the real World Cup. None of them had had, only Spain, a big name rival until now, that's why here the game changes and those concessions and underestimates to the rival are over. Honestly I don't know who can win, I see an incredibly even game where both teams have proven to be goal machines, I think everything will be in the hands of the defenders and how good they are on Saturday night in Qatar.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.

Saludos amigo!
