Andrey Rublev en la ruta ganadora. ATP 500 de Washington. [Esp - Eng]

El fuerte calor y las recurrentes lluvias, han sido causante de la suspensión de algunas jornadas en el abierto de tenis de Washington, mejor conocido como el Citi Open, que en su edición número 53 ha visto excelentes presentaciones, pero también lamentables abandonos en pista, por las extremas condiciones de temperatura, tal es el caso del estadounidense Taylor Fritz, la estrella rumana Simona Halep y el británico Andy Murray, entre otros.

No obstante el ruso Andrey Rublev, quien ocupa la octava posición del ranking ATP, no puede desaprovechar las oportunidades de jugar la mayor cantidad de torneos posibles (Luego de ser suspendido de Wimbledon por su nacionalidad, por el tema del conflicto en Ucrania); y es uno de los tenistas que tuvo que jugar una doble jornada, para definir su partido de 8vos de final suspendido por lluvia y luego concretar en los 4tos, su racha ganadora.

However, the Russian Andrey Rublev, who occupies the eighth position of the ATP ranking, can not miss the opportunity to play as many tournaments as possible (after being suspended from Wimbledon for his nationality, due to the conflict in Ukraine); and is one of the players who had to play a double day, to define his match of 8vos of final suspended by rain and then to realize in the 4tos, his winning streak.

En primera instancia, fue la continuación del encuentro ante el norteamericano Maximew Cressy, en una dura batalla librada en las instalaciones del William H.G FitzGerald Tennis Center de la capital estadounidense. Desde su anuncio se tornó un partido interesante para mí, dado los resultados que ha obtenido Maxime en sus últimos encuentros, en los que acumulaba seis victorias consecutivas, incluido su título en el ATP 250 de Newport la semana pasada.

In the first instance, it was the continuation of the match against American Maximew Cressy, in a tough battle at the William H.G FitzGerald Tennis Center in the U.S. capital. Since its announcement it became an interesting match for me, given the results that Maxime has obtained in his last matches, in which he accumulated six consecutive victories, including his title in the ATP 250 of Newport last week.

Además era la primera vez que se enfrentaban el 8 y el actual 32 del escalafón, en sus respectivas carreras; lo que se unía a la incertidumbre del nivel que mostraría Andrey en su pista preferida (las rápidas). Esto se convertiría en un choque de estilos, con la potencia del juego cruzado de Rublev y la eficiencia del saque y volea de Cressy; y esta prometedora batalla no se haría esperar, dado que desde los primeros intercambios, fueron la tendencia.

No obstante, fue Andrey quien marcó la diferencia, siendo más agresivo desde su revés receptor, combinado con el forehand en corto y rasante, con lo que dificultó el ya clásico tercer golpe de Maxime, que en mi opinión ha debido buscar el slice para mantener la bola en juego, porque cuando quiso volear tan cerca y a baja altura, dejó sus últimos dos tiros en la red y eso fue el quiebre (3er game); y lo que marcaría la ventaja vital para el 6-4 para Andrey.

It was also the first time that the 8 and the current 32 of the ranking faced each other in their respective careers; which added to the uncertainty of the level that Andrey would show in his favorite court (the fast ones). This would turn into a clash of styles, with the power of Rublev's cross-court game and the efficiency of Cressy's serve and volley; and this promising battle would not be long in coming, given that from the first exchanges, they were the trend.

However, it was Andrey who made the difference, being more aggressive from his receiving backhand, combined with the forehand short and flush, which hindered the now classic third stroke of Maxime, who in my opinion should have looked for the slice to keep the ball in play, because when he wanted to volley so close and low, he left his last two shots in the net and that was the break (3rd game); and what would mark the vital advantage for the 6-4 for Andrey.

La segunda manga estaría llena de paridad, con el buen ritmo conseguido por Cressy, quien se aferró a su fuerte saque y a su defensa desde el fondo (su rival le tenía pillado con los tiros al cuerpo y al contrapié), lo que mostraba una clara y precisa estrategia del nacido en Moscú. Ambos amenazaron pero no lograron quebrar sus respectivos servicios, así que se anunciaba un tie break
que se convertiría en una especie de montaña rusa ja,ja,ja.

Andrey partía adelante con 3-1, me daba la impresión que estaba golpeando la pelota con mayor fuerza que al principio, exhibiendo un físico y movilidad impecables, aunque justo allí fue presa de su extraño temperamento, luego de ver cómo le remontaban con 4 puntos consecutivos. Rublev volvió a ese lapsus de las palabrotas y la actitud rabiosa que no le ayuda en nada. Aunque pudo seguir acertando su drive a los lados y hacer fallar a un Maxime que desperdició un set point.

The second set would be full of parity, with the good rhythm achieved by Cressy, who held on to his strong serve and his defense from the baseline (his opponent had him caught with his body shots and counter-pace), which showed a clear and precise strategy of the Moscow-born player. Both threatened but failed to break their respective serves, so a tie break was announced that would become a kind of roller coaster ha,ha,ha,ha.

Andrey was leading 3-1, I had the impression that he was hitting the ball harder than at the beginning, showing an impeccable physique and mobility, but right there he fell prey to his strange temperament, after seeing how he came back with 4 consecutive points. Rublev returned to that lapse of swearing and rabid attitude that does not help him at all. Although he was able to continue hitting his drive to the sides and make Maxime miss a set point.

El partido se decidiría en los pequeños detalles del juego (característico de rivales de gran nivel); Cressy no manejó bien un tiro frontal que parecía sencillo, aunque traía fuerza porque Rublev estaba jugando con agresividad y siempre al ataque. Ese mayor empuje de Andrey le permitió recuperar la ventaja inicial del desempate y cerrar de la misma manera que lo hizo en el primer set, con un saque directo y potente, que se quedó sin respuesta.

El marcador final sería 6-4 y 7-6 (8) en 1 hora y 45 minutos de partido. Este resultado beneficiaría al ruso que luego de algunas horas de descanso saldría a disputar los cuartos de final, ante el tercer estadounidense en fila J.J Wolf. Pero en este caso resolvería con mayor facilidad con 6-2 y 6-3 en 80 minutos de partido. Un detalle a tener en cuenta, es que cuando Andrey juega calmado y concentrado, le va mucho mejor, pero a menudo tiende a perder la paciencia.

The match would be decided in the small details of the game (characteristic of high level rivals); Cressy did not handle well a front shot that seemed simple, although it brought strength because Rublev was playing aggressively and always on the attack. That greater push from Andrey allowed him to recover the initial advantage of the tiebreaker and close in the same way he did in the first set, with a direct and powerful serve, which went unanswered.

The final score would be 6-4 and 7-6 (8) in 1 hour and 45 minutes of match. This result would benefit the Russian who, after some hours of rest, would play the quarterfinals against the third American in a row, J.J. Wolf. But in this case, he would solve more easily with 6-2 and 6-3 in 80 minutes of match. A detail to take into account is that when Andrey plays calm and concentrated, he does much better, but he often tends to lose his patience.

El día de hoy a las 7:00 pm hora del este, el primer preclasificado de este ATP 500 de Washington, disputará las semifinales ante el zurdo japonés Yoshihito Nishioka, quien viene sorprendiendo a propios y extraños, al jugar de manera perfecta durante este inicio de la gira norteamericana de verano.
