Learning & Growing with HIVE - An Enriching Journey

Enriching is truly what my journey on Hive has been.

Most social media platforms are entertaining. You learn about a lot of people and maybe gain a few ideas to incorporate into your own lifestyle.

That’s all good but how many platforms are community based, reward you for creating content, helps you build quality skills ie. teamwork, leadership and organizational structure, encourages creativity by allowing you to customize your blog and contribute according to your style and personal preferences?

I have gained so much by being here and I want to take some time to list a few of the 🔝 things I have learned and how Hive has helped me grow in real life.

Hive is like an opened book. It’s filled with so many resources and knowledge. Every time you login you learn something new then find yourself getting lost in reading.

It’s pretty hard closing a book when it gets to the interesting parts, it’s the same way with Hive. Once you find something of interests it’s hard to leave it until you’re finished exploring it. It’s through those exploring moments that I have learned the most.

𝑃ℎ𝑜𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑝ℎ𝑦:

My interest and love for photography started here on this platform. All of the professional photos I was seeing and beautiful blog posts being shared with quality photos inspired me. I had my heart set on a professional camera so I could also share quality photos.

Once we got our camera we watched tutorials and went outdoors to practice until I felt comfortable enough with it. I can’t imagine life without my DSLR camera.

I am thankful to have met many of you who had experience with them and were gracious enough to answer my questions. That’s the other great part about Hive, people are willing to share their tips and advice to help others grow. It’s fun showing off our skills and talents but it’s even more fun when we can watch others develop because we took the time to lend a helping hand.

I’m not where I want to be with my photography but I have come a long way in these last five years. My next goal is to upgrade our camera from an entry level to a more professional model. It’s time I master macro photography!

Quick shoutout to my fav photography communities: Stock Images and Photography Lovers! ♥️

Oh my! If someone would have told me
I’d be this enthusiastic about crypto five years ago I wouldn’t have believed it whatsoever.

I would have believed it about my husband because he was diving into the crypto realm back then. But me? Uhm no way! This was not my field of interest.

When my brother introduced me to this platform (I’m just going to stick to saying it this way instead of saying Steemit. We all know where we started from so no need for me to reference it throughout the post) my main interest was the blogging part. I had recently talked about starting my own blog site and sharing my crochet work and natural lifestyle anyway.

When I learned that this was an all in one opportunity: creating, blogging, community and earning I felt I was right where I needed to be. Once getting through the learning curve I knew I would be here for the long haul.

When I joined the Steemitmamas group my curiosity for cryptos really began to grow. It was intriguing to me how so many women were really into this.

Thats right cryptos are not just a man’s thang! 😝

I learned about different coins and programs to look further into. I began researching about them more with my husband and together we found new investment opportunities.

On top of all this you have Hivers constantly posting about the latest apps and tokens along with their personal opinions and experiences with them. It’s pretty hard to be kept in the dark when you’re apart of Hive. You always find out what’s going on in the crypto world.

Discord adds another layer to this. There are always chats going on and links being shared so you won’t miss out. If you join your favorite communities on there you’re sure to be up to date ;)

I keep hearing people say that those who have found cryptocurrency and are already investing and holding are going to benefit the most from it. We have a head start in the future of money and it is a blessing being apart of all this.

𝑁𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑙𝑒𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘:

When I joined here I had been crocheting for about five years already. I had no idea how much more I would learn from meeting other needleworkers. My needlework vocabulary expanded, new forms of the art became known to me and I have been inspired by so many techniques and projects shared by the NeedleWorkMonday Community over the years.

I call it my needle awakening lol! I have developed a love for knitting which is something I was intimidated by at first. Once I started seeing different shortcuts and ways to get around mistakes it wasn’t so scary any more.

I have even taken up sewing. I was
so motivated by seeing projects I wanted to try so I knew I had to learn. From there my mom took on the task of teaching me the basics. We haven’t sewed together in a long time and I really miss it. There’s tons more for me to learn.

Upcycling was also inspiring to learn about. I love seeing these types of projects and how people make good use out of their old belongings making something new and useful.

Being apart of a Community that is just as passionate as I am about the needle arts has truly been an amazing experience. Meeting weekly with needle artists from all around the globe has definitely spiked my love for it!

𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝐿𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔:

Natural living was one of the first things I ever blogged about. We had just gotten serious about essential oils and clean eating and I needed to share it with the world.

When I joined posting under the naturalmedicine tag and meeting other naturalists on discord it was like wow, there are soooo many other aspects to a healthy lifestyle that I hadn’t even begun tapping into.

I have been motivated so much by the NaturalMedicine Community to stay on track with my health goals. Hearing testimonies about healthier choices does help you want to do better.

Homesteading is another area that we are really wanting to reach for. We are preparing for a small garden (stay tuned for future posts) to start with and hope as we learn and grow we can expand it. For now we’re taking baby steps in order to gain knowledge on how to be successful homesteaders.

Where do I start? I have grown so much from being active and involved here.

𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐶𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑟:

Looking back on my first posts up till now you can easily see the progression of improvement. Other veterans and leaders were constantly sharing tips and advice on how to improve our publications.

From post length, citing sources, grammar punctuation and photo quality there have been many valuable teachings that have helped me develop as a writer.

Hive has brung out the creative in me. My family reads most of my publications (a few of them have accounts here but most of them wait for me to share them with them) and they are amazed how much my writing and formatting of my posts has improved. They keep saying

Where has this writer been all this time?

I’ve always expressed a love for sharing information in a fun way where people laugh and are entertained. I also like for others to be in those moments I share whether it be funny or more on a serious note. I just didn’t realize how much I really loved doing this until I met the blockchain.

I remember when I first started out I had a whole page of post ideas. I would check them off as I completed them. Nowadays I’ve gotten more busy and I just quickly jot ideas down and get to them when I can. I’ve been focused on other things here now (I’ll get to that soon) so my goal is to at least publish one post per week.

I appreciate all the feedback and comments I receive so please keep those coming folks. 😄 Responses really help to confirm whether or not your writing content is reaching others and I look forward to getting those every time I post.

Another confirmation that you are establishing yourself as a great writer is when you start to gain a following of automated votes. I have watched that list grow over the months and it is very honoring and humbling. It’s pretty much people saying

I trust that this writer will put out quality content every time they post!

That’s huge y’all! Like seriously I don’t take that lightly. People are trusting me to put out great content every time I post so they upvote me ahead of time even before they read my content. Wow 😳, I’m so moved by this.

Thank you to each of you who have faith in me to produce the content you like to support. It means a great deal to me and you are appreciated. Even those who do not upvote me automatically but always come by to read and support my work manually...Thank You!

𝐶𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑟:

We’re all curators here right? If you are here taking the time to read, comment and upvote other’s work then you are definitely one.

This has been more of my focus I’d say for the last year and a half.

It actually started further back when I started the needleworkmonday tag. I wanted to get needlers on the map and make sure their work was being seen so they could be better supported. Since then (I’m sure you have noticed too) us needleworkers are definitely on the map and are supported tremendously for our work and it’s a great feeling.

Once that was accomplished I slowly started working on getting other people noticed in general by upvoting, commenting and reblogging their work so my followers could see how great it was too.

Fast forward I never would have thought I would land a position in the most influential, supportive and popular curation group known to man lol...okay known to Hive. 😜

That right there is a stamp of accreditation. The fact that @acidyo and the team saw me as a reliable trusted candidate is like whoa huge to me. I have worked really hard to prove my dedication and trustworthiness here. Not just by my reputation number but by keeping my word, staying committed to the projects I start and by being a positive influencer.

I remember when I first got curated by OCD back then and was put into one of their compilations. I was so thrilled and excited. Now, I get to make someone’s day just like mine was made and find those undervalued posts that deserve more love and attention. I love my job, it really Rocks! 🤩

I am so grateful to the ocd team particularly @acidyo, @macchiata, @livinguktaiwan and @derangedvisions who have all welcomed me and other newbies with opened arms and have been patient with us as we learn the ropes. Big props also to @jznsamuel who is also one of the OG curators who has been holding down the compilations for awhile now.

I really have a lot of fun with this team. I mean literally...we have a blast! Check out the latest LooLoo Community post written by @livinguktaiwan and you’ll see what I mean. 😅

I am constantly learning and growing as a curator by being apart of this group. ♥️

𝐿𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟:

This is another huge one for me. Let me say I didn’t join this platform expecting or trying to become a leader. I just had ideas and put them into action early on and I’m so glad I did.

When you have DM’s coming your way from people stating how much of a blessing you have been to them and how much they look up to you as a leader, that is out of this world humbling. Especially when all you are doing is being you and sharing the love you have towards others.

I have been so blessed meeting so many lovely people here and creating valuable friendships.

In my real life I have always been known to be a leader. From my school days, through college and now in my adult and social life I just like to see things go well and stay organized. I like to keep the peace and make sure everyone is on one accord. I want everyone to feel at home and not left out based on who they are...everyone deserves a chance.

It’s been an amazing journey being a leader here but I have also grew because of it.

There have been times I had to get out of my comfort zone and let others step up. I’ve learned how to better work with other leaders and let them lead at relevant times. Sometimes I’ve even had to stretch my brain and learn about different applications and techniques that would help our community.

It’s one of those moments you realize you are teaching yourself about something you were never interested in. You decide to do it for the better of the people, for the growth of your community. In the end it ends up benefiting you as well because now your knowledge and skill base has expanded.

Doing what I do here has helped me learn to balance my time and to keep things prioritized in real life. I can’t just give my full strength here 24/7 because I have a family that needs me. I had to make realistic choices so that I can tend to my duties at home as well as enjoy my free time which mostly consists of being here.

It’s a really great feeling knowing people look to you and have confidence in you to get things accomplished. It’s also a bit scary too because I don’t like to let people down. Although I know I am not perfect and will make mistakes so I have learned to give myself some leeway.

I will end this category on this note:

I have seen and been apart of groups where the favoritism is screeching real. I understand that we all have our favorites and we even connect better with some than others. However, if you are a leader you are expected to act as a leader. Give folks a chance and reach out to them when they need assistance.

Everyone has a starting point, we all did. A lot of folks are just trying to get where you are and become well established here. When we turn our backs on them because they may not seem worthy of our help or you don’t like something about them then they will never get to prove themselves and have an opportunity to grow.

It just saddens me when I see those who are claiming to be leaders intentionally shut someone out and just stick to their cliques instead of spreading themselves out more to be that helpful hand that’s needed.

I look forward to see all that awaits this Hive journey of mine. I know I will continue to learn and grow and that keeps me curious. 😊

All photos are my own and were taken with our Cannon EOS Rebel T6.

Hi beautiful, infinite blessings to you and your family...how beautiful your growth, it's inspiring. May the NeedleWorkMonday community continue to grow and grow and grow.

I keep thinking about our NeedleWorkMonday community, I feel like a spark is missing, how to reactivate it as it was at the beginning when I came to the blokchain.

Hugs my dear...

Hey lovely! Thank you so much. ☺️

I know what you mean. There was a certain special quality that we had which was like no other. Unfortunately I think the spark you are speaking of has to come naturally.

We’ve been trying to spice things up and get others more involved but there has been a lack of excitement and support within the community itself.

I know a huge part of that is what has befallen upon us as a society. I know several of our members who have been dealing with really hard times, taking care of their sick loved ones and trying to keep their heads above water. With all that’s been going on a lot of the life and fun has been sucked out of the everyday joys we used to have. It’s really just a weird time and different setting.

We as leaders will do our best to keep life within the community by continuing fun challenges and finding ways for us all to stay connected. I do hope that someday we can get that spark back that was once there before so many were effected in negative ways.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to share . Thank you for being here ~

Since I met you I loved your approach, your guidance and everything you did. You were really ahead on the platform and you didn't keep that knowledge for yourself but shared it with us. Now you are more recharged with energy after that little retreat you did, it was just and necessary because now with you we have grown.

I’ve had a very similar experiences. I came here to share my fiction and ended up challenging myself to get out of my comfort zone over and over, learning how to invest and build a business, gaining a ton of confidence and making some amazing friends. So yeah, it’s a special place but sometimes it requires looking beyond the surface and experimenting.

I have learned that even though it's hard getting out of our comfort zones we end up having the best outcomes ever! We just never know what's waiting on the other side until we take that plunge.

That’s awesome to see you have gained so much from being here too. Being apart of this has been very rewarding :)
