Hello everyone zak40k here again with another Detachment review for Space Marines.

I have already done the following Detachments: Gladius Task Force, Anvil Siege Force, Firestorm Assault Force, Stormlance Task Force, Vanguard Spearhead, Ironstorm Spearhead, 1st Company Task Force, Blade of Ultramar, Emperor's Shield, Spearpoint Task Force, Forgefather's Seekers, Shadowmark Talon, Librarius Conclave, Bastion Task Force, Ceramite Sentinels

As explained in the post The Future of Warhammer 40k Datasheet Reviews on Hive - Faction Pack orientated we are now going to be doing reviews based on the new Faction Packs.

That leaves the following: Reclamation Force, Orbital Assault Force, Headhunter Task Force, Hammer of Avernii, Armoured Speartip, Fulguris Task Force, Subversion Assets.

Let's do Hammer of Avernii!

This post is based on Faction Pack Space Marines that have more Detachments than Codex Space Marines and it replaces everything that happened prior. There are small changes and these changes are based on what can be found online at www.warhammer-community.com.

Note that this Detachment makes use of the Space Marine Army Rule, Oath of Moment.

This Detachment is based the Iron Hands Chapter of Space Marines. Instead of being an upgrade of a previous Detachment with some extras, this one is quite different

Hammer of Avernii - 2DP - Priority Assets

Detachment Rule - Calculated Annihilation

Each time a model from your army with the Oath of Moment ability makes an attack that targets your Oath of Moment target, you can re-roll a Wound roll of 1.

Recalculating

Once per battle round, after your Oath of Moment target is destroyed, if a Caanok Car model from your army is on the battlefield, select one enemy unit visible to that unit. That enemy unit becomes your Oath of Moment target until you select a new one.

Restriction

You may only include Iron Hands units in your army and no units from other Chapters.

Enhancements

Most Detachments have 4 Enhancements. These can only be given to Characters that qualify and never to Epic Heroes. You may only select up to three Enhancements to field at the same time. The Points indicated nect to these Enhancements are stated as they are at the time of writing this article. They may change in the latest Minutorum Field Manual.

Spiritus Ferrum - 25pts

Adeptus Astartes model only. Add 1 to this model's Attacks on melee weapons. Once per battle, use this Enhancement and add 1 to the Attacks of melee weapons of the whole unit.

Medusan Roar - 30pts

Adeptus Astartes model only. While an enemy unit (excluding Monsters and Vehicles) is within 6"of the bearer, and they fail a Battle-shock test, one model in that unit is destroyed. Once per battle you can choose for D3 models to be destroyed instead.

Review Instant death to any who fail their morale check and when it is something strong like Terminators or Custodes, D3 dead instead!

Iron Laurel - 10pts

Adeptus Astartes model only.

Improve the characters OC by 1. Once per battle, improve the OC of the whole unit by 1.

Steel Front - 15pts

Adeptus Astartes Terminator model only. After both players have finished deploying, select up to 3 Adeptus Astartes units from your army and redeploy them. You may also put those units into Strategic Reserves.

Review This is hectic! This makes a unit very difficult to kill especially when you stick this on a 10-man Terminator unit!

Stratagems

Ruthless Butchery - 1 CP

When: Your Shoot phase or the Fight Phase
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Dreadnought, Terminator, Blade Guard, Sternguard or Vanguard unit from your army that has not yet shot or fought this phase.
Effect: Until the end of the phase, add 1 to the Hit roll and if the unit is below starting strength, add 1 to the Wound roll as well.

Dominator Beacon - 1CP

When: Your movement Phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Dreadnought, Terminator, Blade Guard, Sternguard or Vanguard unit from your army within range of an Objective your control
Effect: That Objective is Objective Secured and remains under your control even if you have no models on the objective.

Armour of Contempt - 1 CP

When: Your opponent's Shoot or Fight phase, after an enemy has selected its targets.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army that was selected by one or more of those attacks.
Effect: Until the attacking unit has finished making its attacks, each attack they make is at -1 Armour Penetration Characteristic.

Cogitated Ferocity - 1CP

When: Your Fight phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Dreadnought, Terminator, Blade Guard, Sternguard or Vanguard unit from your army that has not yet fought this phase.
Effect: Select either Sustained Hits 1 or Lethal Hits. Until the end of the phase, melee weapons in this unit have the selected ability.

Augmented Fortitude - 1CP

When: Your opponent's Charge Phase, just after an enemy unit ends a Charge move.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Dreadnought, Terminator, Blade Guard, Sternguard or Vanguard unit from your army within Engagement Range of that enemy unit
Effect: Until the end of the turn, each time an attack is allocated to this unit, subtract 1 from the Damage characteristic of that attack.

Dropship Extraction - 1CP

When: End of your opponent's Fight Phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes Terminator unit from your army that is not within Engagement Range of an enemy.
Effect: Remove your unit from the battlefield and place them into Strategic Reserves.
