40k - Faction Pack - Space Marines - Detachment 18 - Orbital Assault Force

I struggled to load pictures so I used a picture from another post of mine.
Hello everyone zak40k here again with another Detachment review for Space Marines.
I have already done the following Detachments: Gladius Task Force, Anvil Siege Force, Firestorm Assault Force, Stormlance Task Force, Vanguard Spearhead, Ironstorm Spearhead, 1st Company Task Force, Blade of Ultramar, Emperor's Shield, Spearpoint Task Force, Forgefather's Seekers, Shadowmark Talon, Librarius Conclave, Bastion Task Force, Ceramite Sentinels, Hammer of Avernii, Reclamation Force
As explained in the post The Future of Warhammer 40k Datasheet Reviews on Hive - Faction Pack orientated we are now going to be doing reviews based on the new Faction Packs.
That leaves the following: Orbital Assault Force, Headhunter Task Force, Armoured Speartip, Fulguris Task Force, Subversion Assets.
Let's do Orbital Assault Force.
This post is based on Faction Pack Space Marines that have more Detachments than Codex Space Marines and it replaces everything that happened prior. There are small changes and these changes are based on what can be found online at www.warhammer-community.com.
Note that this Detachment makes use of the Space Marine Army Rule, Oath of Moment.
An Orbital Assault Force is quite self-explanatory. Let's see how it works!
Orbital Assault Force - 2DP - Take and Hold
Detachment Rule - Rapid Drop Deployment
Depending on the battle size, select a number of units at the start of the Declare Battle Formations step, those units have the Deep Strike Ability
Incursion (1000pts) - 2 Units
Strike Force (2000pts) - 3 Units
Onslaught (3000pts) - 4 Units
Each time an Adeptus Astartes model from your army makes an attack, if it was set up on the battlefield this turn, re-roll Wound rolls of 1. If that unit disembarked from a Drop Pod this turn, re-roll a Hit roll of 1 as well.
Review You can put Drop Pod units in reserve as well as give units without Deep Strike that ability. This could be scary!
Enhancements
Most Detachments have 4 Enhancements. These can only be given to Characters that qualify and never to Epic Heroes. You may only select up to three Enhancements to field at the same time. The Points indicated nect to these Enhancements are stated as they are at the time of writing this article. They may change in the latest Minutorum Field Manual.
Laurels of Thunder - 15pts
Adeptus Astartes model only. You can re-roll Charge rolls made for a bearer's unit in a turn in which they were set up on the battlefield.
Review The Terminator Captain has this built in. Good for another DS unit.
Veteran of the Vanguard - 20pts
Adeptus Astartes model only. Models in the bearer's unit have the Scout 6" ability.
Review A free pre-game move.
Orbital Uplink Reliquary - 25pts
Adeptus Astartes model only.
After both players have set up their armies, you can select up to three units and redeploy them, you may also put them into reserves.
Review So you can put Drop Pods in auto-reserve and then grant regular units Deep Strike and deploy them because your Reserves are over pointed. THEN Re-deploy them into Reserves with this ability and therefore Deepstrike them.
Dedicated Gunship - 15pts
Adeptus Astartes Terminator model only. Once per battle at the end of your opponent's turn, if this unit is not in Engagement range of an enemy, they can be placed into Reserves.
Review So Terminators Deep Strike in, conclude their business and then go back into Reserves and come right back down again.
Stratagems
Suppression Strafing - 1 CP
When: Command Phase
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army.
Effect: Select an enemy visible and within 18" of your unit. That unit must make a battle shock test with a -1 modifier. Should they fail, that unit is at -1 to Hit until the start of your next turn.
Tactical Decapitation - 1CP
When: Your Shoot Phase or the Fight Phase
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit that has not been selected to Shoot or selected to Fight this phase
Effect: Until the end of the phase, weapons equipped by models in your unit have the Precision ability and if they are targeting a Character unit, they get +1 to Hit as well.
Shock Onslaught - 1 CP
When: Fight phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit that has not been selected to fight this phase.
Effect: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes a Pile-in or Consolidation move, it can move up to 6" instead of up to 3".
Auto-sense Coordination - 1CP
When: Your Shoot Phase or the Fight Phase
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit that has not been selected to Shoot or selected to Fight this phase
Effect: Select either Lethal hits or Sustained Hits 1. A unit arriving from a Drop Pod this turn or a unit targeting an enemy within 12"has this ability until end of the phase.
Blind Screen - 1CP
When: Your opponent's shooting phase, just after the enemy has selected an enemy unit as its targets.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit (excluding Titanic units) from your army that was selected as the target of the enemy unit's attack and one friendly Adeptus Astartes Smoke Vehicle or Drop Pod unit within 9" of it.
Effect: Until the end of the Phase, models in the unit have the Stealth ability and has Benefit of Cover against Ranged attacks.
Review This is unfortunate because in 11th edition Stealth grants Benefit of Cover now... so you only get 1 benefit and not two. Also Smoke keyword would have given you the same as well and is better.
.
Onward for the Emperor - 1CP
When: End of your opponent's Fight Phase.
Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit that was not set up on the battlefield this turn and one Friendly transport it can embark on to.
Effect: If your unit is wholly within 6"of the Transport, they embark on the Transport.
Review
I feel like in general, this army will do a lot of damage in the early game, being able to assault the whole table where you please. Once you are down, there is a limit to how many units can then move quickly again. In a sense, the Take and Hold disposition makes sense for them because of that.
Thank you for reading this review!
