Warhammer 40k - The Metagame is going to be shaken up!

Source

I get asked a certain question a lot when it comes to Warhammer 40,000. Especially when people who know games are first introduced into the game. That question goes like this:

"What is the strongest faction in Warhammer 40,000?"

or

"What is the most OP faction in 40k?"

And to that I have to answer, in a nutshell, that the game is balanced and often rebalanced as time goes by, but that certain armies are better at dealing with some types of enemies and not others.

It gets a bit more complicated after the newbies start scratching the real surface of the DEPTH of the game. Its not just that Necrons are better at dealing with Custodes and Space Marines but less capable of dealing with Imperial Guard and Orks, but rather there is something to be said of Army Composition.

I play Space Wolves. There are quite a few people playing Space Wolves these days and there's no wonder: They are genetically engineered super soldiers in Viking Werewolf flavor. Awesome!

However, you will probably not come across a Space Wolf army quite like mine if you were playing the other locals.

I play heavily mechanized Space Wolves. Meaning that almost my entire army are in transports and supported by heavy tanks and dreadnoughts. If you do not habitually have a army-wide rule to deal with vehicles and you do not have a lot of anti-tank weaponry in your army, you will suffer.

In fact, when you have minimal Anti-tank, this become the first thing I focus my firepower on at the start of the battle.

Anyway...

This is called Metagaming as well.

Should I become successful in destroying many enemies by being mechanized then others will either copy me or they will play more anti-tank. Then someone else will come to the game with mass infantry because everyone is going tanks and this infantry army will also be very anti-tank and thus win in the meta.

However, what we have seen so far about the 10th edition of 40k, seems to indicate that there will be quite a shakeup in their meta ordering in terms of choosing a faction to play.

There seems to be quite a focus in the faction previews regarding Battle-Shock and controlling the game by manipulating that. Battle-Shocked units cannot claim objectives and they cannot use Stratagems.

I will need to do some more of my own Faction Focuses and write with I think about what is coming for 40k in 10th edition. In any case... there is a LOT of content to cover in my ramblings and assessments of the upcoming ruleset so strap in! We are going to do this over the course of the next couple weeks... AND learn all the things in time for 10th Ed!

Indeed!

So (I will probably make a post about this) I am buying something from a friend with the R1500 first. A friend has been holding on to the stuff for me patiently for a while now.

THEN I need to start saving for the 10th edition box. Well, half of it. My son, @merenludick is saving for the other half. Lol.

So he is also posting (hopefully) more frequently.

Never try to pick a faction base don what is winning the tournaments. Rules get revised, replaced, or simply overshadowed by the new hotness of another release too often. Pick a faction with lore, models, and rules you like regardless of the ever-changing meta.

I play Orks because I like my cheerfully murderous green football hooligan space mushrooms.

I play Necrons because psudo-egyption robot ghosts are just awesome.

I need to paint my Crimson Fists and Salamanders kill teams because I like Space Marine chapters overshadowed in the major releases and official art. Also, Vulkan is the biggest bro in the history of Imperium.

I love it that Orks always have the most fun. I think Necrons are always going to look awesome.

Yeah man, both Salamanders and Crimson Fists are so awesome in the lore! Love those guys!
