The cat update: The boys lose their balls and the ginger gets a home

(Edited)

About 2 weeks ago I spoke about my latest tomcat visitor and mentioned that someone was interested in adopting him. I phoned the vet the following Monday morning and managed to get a booking for Wookie and the ginger ninja to be neutered. While castration is often seen as cruel, male cats can live a decent life thereafter: free of constant fights, injuries and abscesses as well as the threat of being hit by cars or killed by cruel people as they go wandering. There was a huge fight between Wookie and the ginger boy one night and the only solution was to lock the ginger cat in my empty cottage and keep them all separate.

Wookie was not happy being in the car with his arch enemy and hissed at us all a lot when I went to take him home from the vet. He continued to hiss at me anytime he could smell the ginger cat's scent on my hands after I had spent time with him

I was worried that the ginger boy would carry on spraying urine everywhere but once confined to the cottage, he stopped and I could focus on making sure he was well enough to go to his new owner. He needed a few days to recover from his surgery and relax. He has been named Aadoo, which is Guajarati for "ginger" and his new owner brought bowls and cat beds for him to use at my place so that when he was rehomed, his bedding would already smell familiar to him and he would feel less stressed in the new environment. After castration, it takes 3-4 weeks for a tomcat's hormones to reduce and for them to lose the urge to wander and fight so it's doubly important for Aadoo to be kept indoors for a month.

Once by himself, he turned into and extremely cuddly cat that disliked being left alone and his new owner fetched him last Thursday. He has settled in well and they both seem to adore each other, I get regular whatsapp updates and photos. I'm really pleased that there was a good outcome for this sweet little guy.

My cats are much less stressed now that they aren't constantly fighting with a determined tomcat every night although there's already another cat hanging around....

Wookie recovered well from his surgery and is playing up a storm with his little buddy Peanut. The humping isn't quite over but hopefully it stops soon. Peanut plays non-stop with his little buddy but then he want to be left to sleep in peace.

Wow that was quite some adventures! Rip to the balls though 😄 I am sure you're also less stressed out that everyone is chilled now.

We live in hope. I just washed my bedroom curtains to get rid of the pee-stench caused by stressed-out boys spraying them

Wookie looks like my son's best friend's cat. And tonight, they will bring her to be my guest for several days; her name is Cora. I'm glad Aadoo has a good home, and your cats are less stressed now.

Is it just me or are the ginger boys high strung and do not play well with others.?

Constant unprovoked attacks...

If we keep lil' guy confined to the back half of the ranch. He is quite a lover and not a fighter like when he is in with the others. It is like two diff cats.

I don't know if it is gingerishness or not. I haven't had kittens in years but annoying the older cats does seem to go with the territory. Having buddies their own age seems to be the best remedy for the constant antics. In my case, Wookie and Peanut take it out on each other and give their elders a break most of the time. By themselves, they are annoying although luckily they are little cats and the older males put them in their places and my females generally don't take shit although they have bothered my eldest a lot
