How quickly we lose patience
How easily we take any serious situation
Couple of days back, I went to local bazar for some daily necessary shopping. Corona situation is not normal here at all in our country. But still I have found some funny things in the local bazar. I was just moving around the vegetable, fish, meat area. I was wearing mask for protection and maintaining the social distance. First of all, I went to Chicken shop for buying some cock and chicken. But surprisingly nobody was wearing mask in that shop. Even they bought breakfast from nearby restaurant as well. It seems nothing happened in the World with COVID 19.
Then I moved to vegetable stores, I found crowd there for buying things. They were so much busy with their buying and selling by forgetting the social distance matter. For buying the required vegetables at reasonable price, they were making rush. On the other hand, sellers were in the same thought of picking best customer for their product selling. About 98% were not wearing mask at all. I got astonished again.
Finally, I went to fish market for buying some local fish. Fish market was full of a variety of fish. In village area, it’s the best time of getting various kind of fish at reasonable price. Main reason behind that, some of the fish farmers are targeting to harvest once more before upcoming winter. That’s why they are selling fish. Even my brother who is a fish farmer sold his fish in last week. Another reason is the land area is filled with water during this rainy season. Thus, local fish in the land area will be available in the next coming days. Whatever, I have found a lot of fish there, but no mask Even when I entered there with mask, some of them was looking at me surprisingly. I was feeling shy with their such a look. I felt like, I am different and went there from any other different planet. Some of them I saw in the market, were putting off their masks due to shyness. That’s the scenario of local market around me here in Bangladesh.
Village people are not conscious enough about the situation most of the time. Some of those are daily based worker so don’t bother about anything rather their daily work. As daily work can ensure their food, that’s why they are not even interested to hear about the issues. But the situation was not like that in the early stage of the corona situation. I have seen a revolution of mask wearing everywhere in Bangladesh in the early stage of the COVID 19 situation. But what happened now. I have no idea. But I have an assumption about the reason. Let me explain.
I normally don’t go to local market. As I am out of office for couple of months. I go to bazar when there is necessary. I have experienced the scenario of Bazar of last there months. The situation differs with time only. With time passing, the people are being less strict with the situation. This is because of Patience, I think. I think, We the Bengali people are not patient enough. We take anything new very seriously but with the time passing we can get out of seriousness. That’s the common attempt of most of us, I think. I can justify this in case of other instances as well like when any student goes to new place or University. He or she behaves very politely but after a while he is not as polite as before. This is happening with the corona situation here in local places of Bangladesh. Village people has lost the patience, and not taking the situation seriously.
Finally, I don’t know how effective mask is, in protecting corona virus. But WHO (World Health Organization) is suggesting to wear it and maintaining the social distance. Bangladesh government is trying its level best to ensure the social distance and initiated law to punish those who are not wearing mask. But consciousness is very much needed in that case. A huge number of adds are being publishing in the TVs and other media. But rural people are not used to the situation and losing the scare day by day.
Hoping for the better days. Hope the situation will be normal again soon. We will be out of home safely then.
