Covid-19: But what's the secret of Africans?

The world woke up one day in the early days of this year to hear about the news of multiple strange deaths happening in the Wuhan region of China. And on investigation, it was unravelled to be caused by Coronavirus (CoV) which is a large family of virus that's responsible for such illnesses as common cold, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV), and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

The world was unprepared, and even some western countries (notably Donald Trump) made jest of China over the emergence of the novel coronavirus (nCoV), tagging it Chinese virus. And even boasted that America is ever ready to deal with the virus if it spreads to America. Not only USA, even Nigeria government of President Muhammadu Buhari said the same thing. Unfortunately, American death alone as a result of the virus has exceeded 120,000, while Nigerian death, 500. While the China from where the pandemic started is yet to record 5000 deaths.

The world's stats is nothing to write home about. While the total number of confirmed cases worldwide is put at above 9million, the confirmed number of deaths as a result of the scourge is put at nearly 500 thousand. And the pandemic is yet to give any sign of abating.

In all this, one thing stands out, and that's the obvious fact that Africans are less affected by the virus. This reality seems not to be in agreement with what the world initially expected. Comparing with other regions of the world economically, Africa remains the very poorest of them all. So, naturally, everyone expected Africa to be the worst hit by the virus. However, against all expectations, Africa happens to be the least hit region of the world.

For instance, comparing USA deaths and Nigeria deaths, one would be tempted ask the question: "What's the secret of Africa against Coronavirus?"

Initially, it was thought that African States lack capacity to carried out laboratory test to detect the virus. This was in the early days of the pandemic when it was still only a handful of counties can test to detect the virus. Seems believable. Agreed as of then.

But what's happening today that almost all countries can run tests to detect the virus? The situation is still unchanged, with survival rate seems to be more among African region than other regions of the world. So the question still remains: "What's the secret of African against the virus?"

Please if you know the answer, use comment box. Thanks

Sincerely,

Eurogee Chukwuka

It has been found that the severity of the symptoms of Covid-19 are related to how vitamin D deficient the patient is. Something like 98% of the deaths were severely deficient in vitamin D. There are almost zero deaths of people with normal amounts of vitamin D. Lots of sunshine in Africa with people spending lots of time out in the sunshine, where skin manufactures vitamin D.
