The drive from the hospital back home had been a silent one. Both Temi and Tayo were lost in thoughts, they both had no idea what next step they were to take.

“I should have taken her home sooner.” Tayo said to himself, but he knew he wasn’t to be blamed. One thing with African parents was that they never approve their children being with anyone intimate unless they were ready to settle down with that person. So introducing Temi to his parents as his girlfriend earlier had been somehow out of the question.

Temi on the other hand had a different problem in mind. She hadn’t told Tayo about this before that she had earlier gone to the hospital and the doctor had given her some news, news that she had planned to tell to Tayo after they had both gone to see his parents. But everything had gone sideways the moment they met Tayo’s mom.

The woman had immediately recognized her and asked her what her father’s name was, that was when things started getting real. Temi’s dad and Tayo’s mom were siblings who long had a fight and had not spoken to themselves in years, meaning that Temi and Tayo were related, therefore they couldn’t get married to each other.

“What are we going to do now?” Tayo finally broke the silence in the car.

“Huh?”

“About the baby, what are we going to do?” Tayo asked.

Temi had finally revealed to him why she had earlier visited the hospital. The doctor had given her the good news that she was pregnant, a news that doesn’t sound so good anymore.

“I don’t know.” Temi replied but she knew she was lying. She knew what exactly they were to do next and that broke her heart. She had thought that this would be the beginning to something beautiful, she had thought wrong.

I don't have a brother, it would have been a lovely experience growing up with one
