Step-by-step process of preparing 'Boal Fish' curry (Wallago Catfish) | Flavors from Traditional Bangladeshi Cuisine!

(Edited)

Fish curry is a must in Bangladeshi cuisine. You may know that our major meal is rice and fish curry/gravy is a good combination with steamed rice.

We usually make fish curry but gravy, fry, and steamed fish are also our favorite. Today I'm gonna share with you a traditional recipe which I prepared with Boal fish; it's from the catfish family but the taste is quite different from catfish.

Let me share the step-by-step process!

What we need?

  • Boal Fish
  • Onion and chili
  • Salt, sugar, turmeric powder, red chili powder
  • Tomato and potato (optional)
  • Vegetable oil
  • Water

Step One

Wash the fish and the veggies properly

Put some vegetable oil on the pan, add onion slices, add some salt, turmeric, and red chili powder as per your taste. And cook it until combined.

After a while, add the potatoes first, then after a few minutes add the tomato slices and cook it for another few minutes.

Add the fish slices and mix them properly with the spices.

Add some green chilis and a pinch of sugar if you want.

Add a cup of water, put the lid on, and cook it for 10-15 minutes in medium heat.

And it's done!

This fish curry is hot, spicy, and delicious. You can add vegetables as per your choice or just cook the fish alone, however you like it. Boal fish is very popular here in Bangladesh and so is the curry.

I hope you would love the taste of our traditional cuisine!

Looks soooo delicious 😍😋 Indonesia has similar dish like this, but the gravy is a little bit thinner. We name it "pindang". Maybe someday I'll try to cook it differently with your recipe. Thanks for sharing ❤️
