When we watch a fighting match, we see the fight in a controlled environment. What do I mean by that? I mean the fighters are not allowed to do anything or attack any way they want. There are rules and regulations that they have to follow to fight.

There are referees who ensure that. And it is a fair fight. The fighter who wins the match, we usually think he/she is a better fight. That's why he or she won.

When it comes to having a fight in real life, what do you think would happen? It can be completely different than a fighting match. You can be a good fighter in a fighting competition but you might not be able to defend yourself unless you are fully aware of what's going on and have the mindset right.

Someone has a weapon, for example, a gun. He has the advantage. Maybe you are great at doing high kicks. Whether you like it or not, it is not going to solve everything. You might think to kick the attacker's hand in order to make him drop his weapon. Well, all he has to do is to pull the trigger. You know what would happen next.

So what is the first time that can help you defend yourself? I think the first thing that you can help you to protect yourself is to detect that you are in danger.

You know how to fight to defend yourself, but if you are not able to detect the threat, the attacker can attack you and you might not defend yourself. It is not because you don't know what to do, it is because you are not able to detect that you are in danger.

Pay attention to how the guy moves, his body language, attitude, the way he behaves and talks. If the guy puts his hands on his pocket or back, you are not sure what's in there or what he holds. The moment he pulls out his weapon, it could be a knife or gun, you are in danger.
