Fuzzy Tinge of Amber, and The Smell of Nostalgia

Can you describe a smell?

I don't mean like "this smells like an orange," "this smells like a rose," "that smells like a banana," lol!

No. I mean like really describe a smell. Not what it smells like, but how does it smell like. Makes sense...?

Have you ever smelt Dolce & Gabbanna's The One, Eau de Parfum? I've been smelling it this evening. The weather had cooled down from the scorching heat of the past few days, the rain had just stopped. Seemed like a perfect time for a sniff at one of my favorite fragrances.

This perfume smells like nostalgia to me. Not that I have been using it since I was a kid or something, I've actually got my nose to it as recently as just last year. But the smell takes me years back in an instant, to those winter evenings, the quietness from the turned off fans, chirping crickets. And it reminds me of playing badminton with my siblings while somewhere down the park someone would be burning something, dry leaves, burning wood and sticks to provide warmth.

The sense of smell is powerfully mysterious and hits the limbic system at all the right spots, triggering emotions so strong that you can almost begin to see when the eyes close. And the mind opens.

I can see the foggy roads, and a distant smoke from the burning flames. The classy warmth of a leather jacket, a fuzzy tinge of amber from the glowing yellow lampposts standing silently as the crickets chirp on.

It smells like an evening after the rain has stopped and the wind is still wet. The rain has to stop, that is essential. I don't see it raining when I smell it. This sillage brings a sense of calmness after a storm. Maybe a walk down the paved footpath of the Tigerpass Road, right beneath the hilly shadows, an umbrella missing from her hands as the cool breeze flows through her hair.

The moon peeping through layers of smoky mist wouldn't be too bad right about now. Maybe a few wolves howl deep into the night as her grip strengthens on my arm. The sillage of romance lingers on...

বেড়ার ধারে, পুকুর পাড়ে ঝিঁঝিঁ ডাকে ঝোঁপে-ঝাড়ে;
নেবুর গন্ধে ঘুম আসে না- তাইতো জেগে রই;

বাশবাগানের মাথার উপর কি আজো চাঁদ উঠেছে?

Ever smelled bottlebrush leaves bhai? Even after two decades of my life elapsing in a blink, this is the only smell that slows down time for me!! Take the leaves in your palm, rub it nice and smell. The universe will start speaking to you😁😁

Can't say that I have smelt it before, but why does this look so familiar? What is the Bengali name for it?

It’s not easy to get; but look for Vilheim, Morning Chess. I think that’s the closest to your bottle-brush @zayedsakib

Aha! Now we get to talk about perfumes. Something I am interested for a very long time! Yeah, I can see you are rolling your eyes! lol

My current fav is Wanted by Azzaro. If I remember correctly the nose behind that was Fabrice Pellegrin. I think it was launched in 2016... speaking off my mind actually. It’s a beautiful spicy and woody EDP. Quite all around.

Getting back to yours; The One is a quite popular one. Did you know it is Olivier Polge’s work? I think he still works for Chanel... Wonderful perfumer!

Really dada?! Perfumes are kinda like one of my hobbies. I research extensively and buy samples to have a sniff! Don't always get full bottles as prices in BD are over the top due to import taxes I think.

My current fav is Wanted by Azzaro

"Azzaro Wanted by Night" is one that I'm looking to get a sample of this winter. I have heard a lot of good stuff about this particular azzaro one.

Did you know it is Olivier Polge’s work?

Yes dada I did. He is a legend. Before he became Chanel's in-house perfumer, one of his last works was a masterpiece, "Salvatore Ferragamo F Black." If you get a chance dada, I'd suggest get your nose to this one. Again, very much a cold weather fragrance but cold weather is approaching in Houston ;)
