Growing up, we had a kind of community settings where we all come together to do stuffs.

As kids, we had many field games we played which make us bond well and brought us all closer together.

We sat and told ourselves folklores and folktales told to us by our parents. We shared ideas mainly on tortoise and dog.

These stories boils down on who tortoise and it tricks as an animal and why it shouldn't be trusted. How it betrayed other animals, especially dogs before cracking it back in the process.

Others were on the loyalty of dogs and how they have been man companions for ages.

These are stories we told ourselves after sunset. They were beautiful moments of my life and i think many 80s kids.

With technology, gadgets have taken over and kids now live very far apart. Everybody is minding their own business and being occupied with playing with their toys and gadgets.

Back then, we would act Police and Thief, we would draw on the floor and jumped over it, we did many tricks with our hands.

We could form boxes, plane, broom, car etc., with thread. This was a lovely moments of our lives as kids. Hardly is there a kid who doesn't know the mother, father, sister or brother of other kids.

We would gather together after it rained and mould houses with sand. We would put our feet on ground, mould on it and slightly remove our legs.

Sometimes we would make kites from nylon or paper, tie thread on them and enjoy ourselves as it got blown by breeze. I doubt if today's kids can make that.

This generation of kids are literally get inside generation. Kids today simply sit in front of computers playing video games.

If they are not in front of computers, they have their gadgets where they play all kinds of games.

This made them so distant from one another. I fear we might not have the kind of community bond we had back then again.

I could remember using rubber band as a form of game. We bought, played, won and sold these rubber band to fellow kids.

We got some cash from doing that. Sometimes we put these rubbers inside kerosene to have a bigger one we call (pata nla - big pants).

I feel there is a need to go back to some of those community kid stuffs. They kind of make us feel like we are together and one instead of this new gadgets that is diving us.

If this continue, we might be creating robot-like kids who mind their own business and care less if the world burns or not.

Did you miss your childhood?
