Wanderlust (ভ্রমণের নেশা): My Love For The Road

Human life is a journey and we journey from one place to another as long as our strength can carry us.

Travelling is one thing that many people love. It is hobby to some and simply job to others. A P.A has no choice than to travel with his/her boss and falls in love with it as a result of that.

For me, travelling is more like sightseeing for me because of the aesthetic nature of the road and the bushes i see on the roads.

Nigerian roads are naturally bad and are not good for travellers. This is true for many states. So travelling can be stressful with potholes almost everywhere which also causes traffic on the road.

Personally, my love for travelling was due to a distance relationship i had back then. I always anticipated public holidays and my leave to take a trip down to Abuja, the Capital of Nigeria.

The hours by road transport from Lagos to Abuja is roughly 12hours. So whenever we leave around 8am in the morning, we would get there around 8pm at night.

The bad roads probably contributed to this long hours on the road. But this doesn't discourage me from travelling.

While on the road, you get to see towns, communities and different kind of places. We often have bus stops where we would be allowed to clean up and pee if we must. Some would use that little break to eat food.

This is a good break because almost all road users stop at these bus stops to do the same thing.

We would move around, buy things, greet one another and chat for a while before embarking on the journey.

These roads have bushes on both side. Sometimes, we can be on these type of roads for hours.

For me, sitting on the window side of the bus is the best spot for me to see things.

As much as i enjoyed my travelling, i made two in the night and the experiences were different. At night, there are bus stops too and we do almost what we did in the daytime there.

The only problem is we are prone to robbers. The security agencies hardly work at night and these hoodlums utilise that opportunity to attack travellers and cart away their valuables.

On these two occasions, we were alerted about robbery before we got to the spot by buses coming from the other side of the road who managed to escape. Our driver would turn back as if we were going back from where we came from.

It happened to me twice and those were scary moments of my travelling. Since then, i stopped taking night buses because of the risk involved.

Aside those two night incidents, my experiences going to Abuja were wonderful ones.

There was one day we went to an amusement park. It is called 'Wonderland' over there and we paid to enter the park and paid to use anything there.

I still have other places i would love to explore because of the travelling breeze. Somehow the breeze feels different from the one we feel on a normal day. And importantly, i would love to feed my eyes aesthetically again.

Thanks for your time.
