Into Thin Air - 4 - Something Crawls

You're not going to believe what just happened!!

The door bursts open and before Manson could knock, say or do anything, he saw a frenzied-looking Patrick still having trouble controlling his breathing. He has dirt all over him, even smeared on his face, small cuts on his hands. He was sweating, with crazed eyes, skin pale as a sheet, if Manson believed in the supernatural then he'd say a ghost has scared the life out of him. But at the moment he's trying to analyze his friend's situation with quizzical brows and a frown on his face.

And hello to you too. Says Manson sarcastically.

Stay back!! Patrick says. He looks back at the house.

Are you okay? Geez, you look scared out of mind! Manson is rather dismayed.

He was falling on his knees but Manson grabbed him and got him on his foot.

We need to call the police! He is shaking.

Let's get you in first. Manson stated calmly.

As He got hold of Manson's shoulder with one hand, they both walked inside the house. Manson walked him to the living room and put him on the couch; quickly grabbing a glass of chilled water and paper towels he ran out of the kitchen to tend to his friend in the living room. Although in doubt, Manson still asked him if he needed medical attention, he shook his head. He kept his eyes on the ground almost as if something will crawl out of the depths of the earth. Manson has never seen him this shaken up before. He is failing to keep his nerves calm.

Hey, What happened? Manson questioned.

I don't know where to begin or how to say. He said.

Well, tell me anyway. Manson chimed in. Wait I'll get us something to drink.

It's going to be a long night. He wipes the sweat from his forehead.

A couple of minutes later Manson comes back to the living room with two glasses and a bottle of scotch in his hand; he places them on the coffee table and sits on the chair nearby. So, what happened exactly?

Did you find anything about the house? He asks.

I did actually. Just the basics and no gossips though. Manson replies. The owners before you had left the house because they often hear something crawling in the house and they refer to it as some sort of a feral animal. The Holloways' have a baby and one night that animal was crawling inside the baby's room. The dad saw and he freaked out. They moved out the next day and got rid of the house as fast as they could. The Danvers' had it worse. Along with that creepy thing crawling around, they even get attacked and one time the wife got locked in the basement and the husband couldn't get her out for hours. The firemen have to come over and break the door down to get her out but by that time, she was frantic. And the way I see you now, you'll probably shift from here soon.

Not yet He takes a big gulp of scotch. And I can assure you it was no rabid animal in the basement.

How do you know? Manson asks.

Because it was wearing clothes and I had seen its face!!! It was a human. It looked human. He rubs his hands over his face.

How did it get in the house? I thought your alarm system is top-notch!!! flabbergasted Manson asks.

I wish I knew. If I had any clue of what is happening then I wouldn't ask you all of this. He pauses. Do you believe in ghosts?

Of course not. There's no such thing as ghosts or spirits and you know that. Why are we having this conversation!! He could sense Manson was hiding something.

The other day when I fell and hurt my head, the record player was playing on its own and there was this girl dancing just right over there. He points to the direction where the girl was.

Were you hallucinating or something? Manson seemed skeptical.
