Alphabet Hunt Challenge ~ Letter O

avatar

This is my entry in the Alphabet Hunt Challenge by @barbara-orenya. You can read more about the Alphabet Hunt and how to join in HERE!

Here are my six (or so) photos representing the letter O ...

1. Opalite
My first entry is Opalite which is a man-made stone. It is featured here in this collage that I put together along with some edits. The un-edited Opalite can be seen in the lower left hand corner of my collage and is marked "The Original". If you meditate then you may want to consider having some Opalite on hand as it is said to remove energy blockages of the meridians and chakras. I love it mainly because it is a very pretty stone! 💖

2. Ocean in Ocean City
I took this photo of the ocean while visiting Ocean City, Maryland. I took it from the 14th floor balcony of the condo that my family was staying at. It was so nice to sit out on that balcony and just enjoy the view and the ocean breeze!

3. Old
This old headboard came from my parents garage. My sister was going to throw it out but I saw beauty in the old piece and brought it home to give to a friend. My friend has a stall in an antique shop and I knew that she would love to have it. She fixes and paints items such as this and puts them up for sale. She was very happy to have it. I didn't get to see the finished look but it did sell rather quickly. I didn't even remember to ask what it sold for. I was just happy that she could do something with it and that it went to a good home!

4. Owl
I saw this gorgeous owl at the Marshy Point Nature Center in Baltimore County, Maryland. It is one of the taxidermied displays there. A lot of the pieces are donated and the animals had passed away from natural causes or accidents. It is featured here with a couple of edits that I did which I think turned out nicely.

5. Olives
Is it too early (or too late) for a martini or two? I'm asking for a friend...lol! I normally have these and some black olives in the house. Have you seen some of the stuffed olive selections available at the stores now? Some of them are stuffed with so much stuff that it's a wonder you can even taste the olive! I like these the best along with non-pitted olives. I use the black olives in my homemade pasta salad and regular salads when I make them.

6. Old Bay
Old Bay Seasoning is a staple here in Maryland and a must have for crabs and authentic Maryland crab cakes. You can use it for so much more though like chicken, fries and anything your heart may desire to use it on and (guess what?) most Marylanders were sprinkling it on potato chips and popcorn even before you could go to the store and buy chips with it already on them.

Check out this Old Bay Hot Sauce that is a Limited Edition item! Honestly, it sells so well that McCormick & Co. (the makers of Old bay) should just offer it as a non-limited item.

alphabethunto8420208ok.jpg

It's pretty good and I really like it on chicken and fries then I dunk them in some Bleu cheese dressing! Yum Yum!

That brings us to the end of this edition of the #alphabethunt but we'll be at it again soon for the letter P after a short Summer Break! 🙂
Thank you @barbara-orenya for #alphabethunt!!

I love olives! I didn't know about Old Bay on potato ships though!

Thanks Melinda!! I love olives too..well..most of them anyway. I've seen some real fancy ones in some stores around here but I prefer the basics..lol. Oh yeah! If you have Old Bay and I think I remember you telling me you did then sprinkle some on some potato chips and see what you think. The packaged Crab Chips have sometimes a bit too much on them but I still like them but the other way you can put as much or as little as you want on them and it's good on popcorn too. 😉

That sounds like a great excuse to make some popcorn this evening!

Is opalite the same as opal? I have a very pretty opal ring and earring set given to me by my Mom in college. Hmmm... I thought it was a natural gem. The ocean photo is magnificent, made special by the cloud formation over the waters. I love food and I love to eat... I will eat crab anytime, LOL!
Thanks for sharing your O words, and certainly look forward to the next one. Take care @deerjay 🥰🌺🤙.

Hi @silversaver888! Not the same...the Opal is a natural gemstone and Opalite is man-made. Both pretty but Opal is prettier especially in jewelry. I enjoyed that visit to the Ocean very much and it was Bike Week so I got to see some great looking motorcycles. I don't go on them anymore but I still like to look at them. Was a little loud at times but still fun. Those views were definitely the best part of the visit though. 😊

Must be very relaxing to sit on the balcony and watch the endless blue - what a view!

Thanks so much Neli!! It really was nice and there was a coffee shop across the street so my husband would go out early to get coffee and we sat out there in the mornings drinking up the coffee and the views. 💖

That's a very nice selection for the O hunt, @deerjay 😀

I know Opalite, but I haven't known that it's man-made.

I love to be at the beach and watch the waves and listen to the sea. I wonder if we will be able to go there sometime this year.

Thanks for sharing your hunting trophies, @deerjay, now we have some time to think of the next letters during the summer break 😉

Thank you so much @johannpiber!! My husband and son left early this morning to go to Ocean City for the day. I really wished that I could've gone but sick..again. I'm hoping that we can go back down soon and stay for a couple of days. Not holding my breath though as everything changes day to day with this covid issue. Opalite is pretty but def man-made as opposed to the Opal. 😉

Oh, it was a pleasure for me, @deerjay 😊

You are right, in these days everything is different and changes quickly. Hopefully the world will turn to some kind of normal soon.

I hope your boys have a good time at the ocean - Ocean City is at the ocean, isn't it? 😉

Another great selection for the os Dee.💞 I’ve never seen the Old Bay seasoning here and it looked like something I would use.I googled and see it includes good things like celery salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and paprika.

The opalite is a pretty stone and I bet the old headboard turned out nicely.

Loved them all Dee. I’m sorry you weren’t feeling up to the Ocean City trip. I know you enjoyed the lovely location.

Take care and feel better soon.😊

Thank you very much Jo!! I sure did miss going but there will be other visits I hope! I wish I had seen how the headboard turned out as I'm sure it was beautiful! I would love to send you a can of the Old Bay after all of this Covid stuff. My nephew told me just a couple of days ago that some employees of our post office have gotten it and the business right next to my house has it and has been closed for several days now. All while wearing masks. Luckily, most people recover and have only mild symptoms but I do worry about my husband since he has asthma and no spleen..oh..and works in a grocery store. Schools are out till at least the end of January but I hope they are out all together for other reasons than just covid. My sons last year of High School. I hope you are doing well and have a wonderful day! 🤗 💞

Most welcome and thanks for your kind thought about the Old Bay Seasoning Dee. ❤️

This pandemic doesn’t seem to want to let up. I hope you and your family stay healthy. The schools are opening here this fall but with changes in the classrooms.

Take care and have a wonderful week.😊

It's funny but I remember seeing old Bay seasons in the cupboard when I was younger. Flash back lol. The opalite was a great choice. :)

Your first O is oh so opulent @deerjay, I love how you edited the stone and got such gorgeous hues! My son's girlfriend is forever buying old furniture at charity shops, restores them and re-sells at a profit, she's found some beautiful pieces! Nice selection of O's!

Thank you very much @lizelle!! I had fun doing those edits and I'm happy that you like them. I knew as soon as I saw that old headboard that my friend would love to have it. I've passed on several pieces to her and her work is beautiful. 😊

My congratulations on excellent and successful word hunting. (sorry that I came to comment too late, but I just was going out here and there and paused my Hive activities for almost a week). do you happen to live at the Ocean shore? in such a case, I really envy you. you are such a lucky person to live this life!

Opalite, Old, Ocean -- I damn adore all these entries!

And I included owl and olive oil ito my pick, too :)
I wish I could try the Old Bay Seasoning on some seafood as well, but we dont have it around.

Thanks so much @qwerrie!! Ocean City is almost a three hour ride from where I live. I didn't get to go on the last visit but maybe I will get to go before the end of the year. I loved your O photos especially the owl, onyx and oils. McCormick & Co. have the ingredients listed as Celery Salt (Salt, Celery Seed), Spices (Including Red Pepper and Black Pepper), and Paprika. I'm sure there are other spices in there as well but I'm betting they will keep that to themselves..lol. It is really good on seafood. It is shipped all over the world now but shipping right now is sketchy with covid. Covid has affected several of the post office locations (not surprisingly) here. I hope it isn't as bad where you live. Have a wonderful week! 🙂

as far as I know, salt + black pepper + garlic + olive oil (or simply mayonnaise) is a classic combination that goes well with shrimps and all the seafood. but I'd love to try a 'branded' limited edition recipe, just to check whats better!
