AlphabetHunt letter F

avatar

Hi Folks, this is my second post in the Feel Good community. I enjoyed reading the posts last week and I learned a couple of things... like for example, most people are illustrating each word with more than a single photo, and also, talking a lot more about them than I did in my first post. This week the Alphabet Hunt is looking for the letter F and I have found a few examples!

Fernwood

P5280051.jpg

I live in a neighbourhood of Victoria, British Columbia known as Fernwood. Funky Fernwood I call it... it's a cool old neighbourhood of Victorian houses and aging hippies.

P5280058.jpg

My favourite local pub is the Fernwood Inn... located on Fernwood Road of course!

Folk Music

P5300018.jpg

Passing through the Fernwood Square today I stopped for a while to listen to these two musicians playing. They weren't playing for money as you might expect, they were just playing for the enjoyment and they were very good! The guy on the left is playing a banjo and the one on the right is playing a mandolin - and switching to guitar now and then.

P5280026.jpg

Here's another example: this flute player was playing something that sounded kind of medieval to me. A Flutist playing Folk music.

French Cafe

P5280046.jpg

I don't know if it's a real French cafe or not... like if I ordered in French would they understand me?

P5280009.jpg

I really didn't care however. I was just so thrilled to see the place had reopened and I could order coffee and sit outside at a table.

Family

P9100038.jpg

Yes, Fernwood is for Families, just like the sign says!

P5110069.jpg

Not only human families. Here is a lovely family of Mallard ducks. (Papa seems intent on enlarging the family... not in front of the chicks please! Doesn't mama look overworked enough as it is?)

Farm

P5300020.jpg

This is the city so don't expect to find acres of food growing but people do have gardens and some of them sell their produce. I noticed this little food box on the street where you can normally buy tomatoes or zucchini. There was no food available today but for the first time I caught on to a little joke here. This is on a street named Gladstone, and the Farm is called Happy Rock... Gladstone ~ Happy Rock... get it? :-)

Here's another food plant you might expect to find in a place called Fernwood: Fiddlehead Ferns are harvested as vegetables and they are a great source of antioxidants and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Signs with the Letter F on Fort Street

I went for a walk on Fort Street and as expected I found a wealth of signs for businesses that I thought would work well for this challenge.

P5280029.jpg

Here's a restaurant I have not visited yet.

P5280033.jpg

First Edition rare books...

P5280037.jpg

he Blue Fox cafe... here's a place where people line up for hours to get in. I've been there a couple of times for breakfast, and it's very good!

P5280032.jpg

Finally, I will finish with my favourite sign... the Frilly Lilly. Without further comment, an explanation of their business:

I hope you enjoyed this little photo-journey featuring the letter F.

Well, you nailed it, Keith 👍
So many beautiful photos and a great story behind - I love everything and it would be too much to comment all, but I do love the duck family most - that image is so lovely 😚
And I have one question: Do they serve in these bikinis? 😉

On their website they describe their business as "whimsical and feminine boutiques specialize in waxing, manicures and pedicures" :-)

So they don't serve good food in bikinis? Well, in that case I wouldn't be interested to go in and use their services 😉
Thanks for the information, Keith, have a great day 😀

Well....what can I say, there is so much for me to tell...you totally cracked me up on this post Keith ! I love the way it told me a story along your pictures, the story of your Fernwood place ,
I laughed a lot, especially with the duck family that is so cute btw, and your words about them, this is soooo funny,
and the french coffee that probably has french only the name (or probably the atmosphere..?...and even good food ? 😁)
I so enjoyed how you made us travel through your place, and with the signs also : totally loved the name Frilly Lilly ...I had to search the word frilly, and I already love it 😍 ..In french it sounds even better and full of F : Fanfreluches or Froufrou ( <----I'm sure english people would have some funny time to pronounce froufrou...try it 😂 )
And the bikinis menu are the top of fun ! 😂
Thank you so much for this Funtastic hunt @keithboone and have a wonderful sunday !

Thank you, Barbara! I'm happy you enjoyed the post. The French cafe was previously owned by people who at least spoke French and had a menu that matched the name. Now, I believe it's just a name. The signs were fun for sure. I enjoy this challenge very much :-)

Fernwood Inn makes a gorgeous picture of old architecture.

Duck photography is stunning along with all the other lovely photography shared.

Your town sounds entertaining with folk singers enjoying sidewalks sharing music outdoors.

Frilly lilly looks a fun filled adventure all on it's own, have an awesome week Keith.

Fernwood community is lovely Keith. I’m happy you are able to sit outside and enjoy a coffee now. Things are also starting to open up at this end of Canada. It seems one step forward and two steps back in some provinces.

Beautiful selections as always. I’m happy to see the fiddlehead and haven’t had a good feed of them for awhile.

Oh, I just saw your comment this second... Yes, we are opening up now, and I'm heading out the door to get a coffee. Glad you are seeing the end of the awful disease in your province!
