my journey to the Alphabet Land (day S)

My next post for the Alphabet Hunt challenge by @barbara-orenya. This time we had to find words starting with letter "S". It was not hard, as there exist thousands of different S-words around us.

S — Scissors

sciss.jpg

I love scissors a lot; I dont collect them, but adore a good vintage shape and feel fascination... cant pass by without taking a pic or two :P
Left one is a very special scissors, for taking away a candle's snuff. One in the middle, is a replica for traditional middle-ages scissors, from Holland. The right one is a more usual shape from 1st half of XX century.

S — Strings

strings1.jpg

Those strings belong to a violin of my family's good friend daughter. We visited them on vacations and took part in their home orchestra. I played on vargan (jewish harp), and my wife tried violin. Very memorable evening it was!

S — Sea snail's shells

5075w.jpg

I took this macro with the shells I have in my collection. I like sea shells and collected them a lot when I was a teenager.

S — Secret door

secret door.jpg

Captured this at the Russian countryside. This really looked like to me as a secret backdoor for some boy or girl living behind that fence.

S — Sail master

sail master1.jpg

Captured this during my second travel to Ladoga skerries back in 2007. This is one of our captains (we had two teams, two boats, and two captains on that occasion).

sail master2.jpg

Here is a close-up version of same foto. Its a pure pleasure to look at such folks faces. Brave and powerful and Skilled men, masters of the Sea!

S — Soviet

4143.jpg

'Hammer and Sickle' is a famouse Russian emblem symbol of the Soviet State, which existed on the territory of Russia from 1917 to 1991. Recently I was walking across the city, and noticed this architectural follie on one of the old buildings. It is really huge, more that 6-8 meters!

8742wH.jpg

Foto #2 - another (full) edition of a soviet state' crest, this one I captured at the St.Petersburg wagon plant. It is not that big (less then 50cm), but looking pretty much solid.

All the images taken by me, as always.

I created an index to my posts for this great challenge.

Beautiful hunt ! I like how the S should get us a variety of words this week..;I hope so anyway 😊
Love the scissors your proposed..;your not-collection is beautiful, and antique, then very interesting indeed
the shells are lovely and I enjoy the photo you made to feature their cuteness
The folks faces I also usually love, like this Sail Master that is undoubtedly skilled in what he is doing ...Thanks for your participation @qwerrie !

So quick to summarize events and things around you @qwerrie the sailors face through the sails really and expressive piece of photography.

Hammer and Sickle for Soviet Russia definitely something everyone would recognize, chiselled out the side of building another permanent fixture.

Wishing you a wonderful day and thanks for sharing your letter "S"

I must remember to go through photographs and do mushrooms, not knowing much about them I get lost always trying to find out more 😄 Walking your daughter to school is one way of always making sure to get out.

Hey @qwerrie, why have you been so fast with your #AlphabetHunt post this week? Usually when I see your post I know that it's the last for the week 😂

I love the violin shot and the Sea Shell's, but the rest looks very nice too, just as the captain, who has a nice and somehow friendly and calm facial expression 😁

Successful hunt my friend, wish you a great afternoon 😊

haha, yes yes! agree. I often tend to procrastinate till the lest minute of deadline... well, maybe its due to the images (for R and S) I collected long before the deadline, so..

probably captain is my fave too -- a well-preserved moment of life, a good streetphoto (tho it wasnt actually a street).

thank you for the tip. and let me add more !BEER to your fridge!

I agree, the R and the S were easy peasy 😁

The captain photo looks really nice, and we have a word that is "water street" translated into English 😉

We call the path of a ship "Wasserstraße" what means "water street" in English - so your photo of the captain is a "street photo" 😁 lol

yes, due to the recent #OCD initiative I was filled up to 1000.
what is left unclear to me, is how much I can give? 20, 25, 30, 50? how much it depends from my stack :P

You are right, I should have looked first, but now you have more 😁

I think up to 50 is ok. I give between 20 and 30 and you should give it only if one engages a lot with a comment, so I don't give it as much as I give the beer.

The photo with scissors is very interesting. My parents had exactly the same as the right one.
All your words are original and well presented. The photo of the sailor is outstanding.

kind words, thank you very much appreciated, Neli.
last two weeks (R and S) were easy, so I managed to rush up some tempo, to prepare for the tail of the alphabet, which not necessarily will be so easy... and, you know, I always tend to procrastinate, haha!

One of my favorite childhood books was The Secret Garden and ever since secret entries like the one in the fence seem to hold some magic!

o-o, 'The Secret Garden'! I know what you are talking about! I hadnt this book in my infantry -- but we already were in the know when became parents, and our baby have read it. I cant say it is her fave... but we got a good edition with classic illustrations, and baby had a lot of fun with it. we read it twice. magic book, and I definitely include it into Top-50 mustread of children literature.

They did a Musical of the book and I went to see it on Broadway. I wish I could send it to your daughter. I thought it was delightful,

Congratulations.
A complete post. I learned a lot, the types of scissors and I use, I also love the old.
Also enjoy the ingenuity of the secret door.
Enjoy the sailing master and what concerns his work.
A symbol that has its history and I would like to know more.
My favorite letters to hunt all your flawless photographs. You made me happy my night. Regards
