It's one of the primary ways to connect an Arduino project to the internet. I am still learning programming so someone else will hopefully create the necessary library for the shield first. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/ArduinoEthernetShield & http://arduino-tweet.appspot.com/
Ah okay.. so it is actually a piece of hardware, not necessarily software.
