On September 19, protests against the dictator Lukashenko were held in Belarus again. Thousands of women took part in the peaceful protest march. The march ended with mass arrests.

Are they forcing everyone in that country to stay home on #Lockdown?

This is not about Lockdown, people go to protest demonstrations, and the police disperse them or arrest them.

Ah okay, I was just wondering what started the protests?

In the United States, it started w/the #BLM and now some people are protesting against the lockdowns.

The protests began after the presidential elections were held in Belarus, in which the opposition actually won, but the dictator Lukashenko did not want to squeeze out power (26 years on the throne is not enough).

Ah okay . .

Did the results show that the opposition won?

Or was it just obvious that they should have won based on the voter turnout for the opposition?

Pre-election polls showed that the president had 3 percent (THREE, seriously). But after the elections, it was announced that the incumbent gained 80%.

Yeah, if there was wide support for the opposition, winning 80% of the votes would sound far fetched.

Ahh, I remember now, it's the elections . . the man leading Belarus for 6 years was announced the winner of the recent election . .

And people started protesting about that, calling it election fraud, right? @solips
