Wait, did I get scammed? A #fridayfinance post

It's been a pretty crazy week here in Bozz land. Crypto is busy doing crypto things while the traditional markets seem to be recovering. Is it possible we are seeing a decoupling again between crypto and those old fashioned investments?

As I said, it's been a crazy week, we had a ice day in the school district this week and instead of driving in I decided to work from home. I actually ended up being a bit more productive than I thought I would be.

I've actually got quite a bit of stuff to cover today, so I am going to get right to it!

finance Friday.png

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin has seen a bit of a wild ride lately. It appears to be back up now, but when it dropped below $39,000 there for a while I couldn't help but think of this song:

Direct Link

Treadmill

The treadmill I finally got around to ordering after weeks of analysis and second guessing myself was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Unfortunately, due to the weather, I now have to wait until Monday for it to show up. Given the fact that I have to assemble it as well, I am guessing it won't be until next weekend that I actually get to use it.

Jovi

Our dog Jovi has been going through a bit of a rough patch lately. She is 14 years old, and somewhere she picked up a urinary tract infection. She is on her fourth round of antibiotics and we are at the point where the vet wants us to take her to a specialist for an ultrasound.

That's why I included a photo of her at the top of this post. Her energy is still high and she still has a healthy appetite, so at the beginning of February we are going to drive her down to Flint, MI to get checked out. The cost is steep, but she is more than worth it.

This will at least answer some of our questions and give our local vet a plan of care based on what we want for Jovi. I have a feeling we have some big decisions ahead of us.

Congratulations, you've been scammed!

I was scrolling through my news feeds the other night and I kept seeing the same token being mentioned over and over again. I had never heard of it before, so I decided I would check it out. That lead me to Retik Finance. Sadly, I didn't follow the second (is it the second?) rule of crypto which says "Do your own research" and I stupidly bought some of the token from my MetaMask wallet.

It wasn't until after the transaction was finished that I decided I should learn more about this token. My funds are secure in my wallet, I didn't get scammed that way, but it looks like I should have dug a little more into this token. Consensus seems to be that the "team" is basically non existent and this is setting up to be a good old rug pull.

It appears the "news stories" I saw were really nothing more than paid advertisements and the token itself isn't getting a lot of love from crypto enthusiasts. I'm sure I am not the only one who has bought this token, so my only hope is that I can get out quickly enough to at least get some of my money back.

Ultimately, I could be out about $350 USD worth of ETH. Not a huge deal, I can make that back in three months on Hive, but still. I should have known better. Have you heard of the Retik token? I'm curious if anyone else was targeted.

Custom Poured Bullion

I was looking around the KZoo Bullion site the other day and I noticed that they are now offering hand poured silver pieces from this guy that is kind of local to where I live.

Their name is Bay City Bullion and some of the stuff they are offering is pretty cool. I don't know how their prices compare, but I know some people in the #silvergoldstacker group does their own hand pouring and I am curious to hear what you think of the quality.

Of course I know it is probably hard to tell from looking at pictures, but I thought it was interesting enough to share with all of you. The fact that KZoo is endorsing them makes me think they must be legitimate.

At the very least you can look at the pretty pictures!

Witness Votes

As always, I encourage you to keep track of your witness votes and make sure you are supporting people who are actually giving back to the blockchain whether it be via development, initiatives, or just their presence.

@nuthman is someone who definitely deserves your witness vote. If you haven't clicked the check box next to his name, you definitely should!

DBOND

The DBOND token that was started by @silverstackeruk and @raymondspeaks is going to be releasing its last batch for sale this weekend. If you aren't a holder of the CLUB token, you are probably going to have to wait a bit longer though.

One of the benefits of the CLUB token was to give us early access to sales of DBOND and other affiliated tokens. I haven't seen an official announcement yet, but I expect one to be coming out soon.

The good news is, even if you don't own a CLUB token, there will still probably be plenty left for you when the general sale starts. Hopefully...

That's all I've got for this week. Check back next week for more finance news!

Ah, that's a great age. It's sad that they grow out of the puppy stage so quickly. Thanks for stopping by!

Sending Jovi best wishes. Have to look after such a loyal friend.

There must be so many scams around and people will want to get in early on any hot coin. Not that I look at crypto news much. I hope your losses are minimal.

Thank you! It's been hard dealing with her being sick, but the unknown is probably the worst part, so getting answers will be nice. Yeah, this isn't the most I have ever lost, so I am not too worried. More embarrassed than anything. Maybe it will all work out in the end...

Wishing the best for Jovi. It's tough watching a pupper having a rough time. I haven't looked into it, but it does sound like Retik may be prepping for a rug-pull. It's frustrating how often people are able to pull them off. I guess the flip side is too many people are in a huge rush to make it big with the next 1000x coin.

There's also nothing worse than looking forward to a delivery in time to use the item for a coming weekend, only to find out it's delayed into the next week, so now you'll have to just sit and look at the box for a few days.

Yeah, I doubt I am going to be in the mood to come home each night and work on putting the thing together. Though I am a bit of nerd like that, so maybe I will! She's been a good dog and with the upcoming tests hopefully we can continue to give her a good quality of life for at least a year or two more. I know we are probably on borrowed time at this point though. Retik has a flashy site and the promises sound good, so maybe we will be surprised but I have a feeling a lot of it is going to fall flat. A quick Google search shows that many people feel the same way.

Too bad about Jovi. Here's hoping for good news!

I haven't heard about that scam token. The last scam I bought into was that Pepe coin. That one didn't turn out very good either...

I bought some Pepe as well. I have a few tokens where I throw maybe $50 at them and hope maybe I can turn it into something big. I usually end up buying in too late though. This one was a bit more of a jump for me and I am kind of bummed, but it's no big deal really. Thanks for the well wishes for Jo!

We will get there eventually. Just need to zoom out and look at the big picture.

I hate to hear you got scammed, that always sucks but at least it wasn't too big a hit. But it still sucks...

Too bad the treadmill isn't arriving in time to assemble it this weekend. I guess you'll just have to sip some bourbon instead!

I hope Jovi does OK, as dogs age they have more and more problems. It sounds like she's doing great though.

@silverd510 would be a good bet to ask about the poured silver since he pours his own.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Bay City Bullion is friend of mine he also has a YouTube channel under Silversuppliment. He’s a solid guy, he learned to pour from some great silver pourers Pit Bullion, The Bear, The Vulcans all are top notch pourers. I made him a treasure chest in walnut and cherry wood.

No way, that is super cool. I lived in Bay City for a while and now I live just a short distance away. Small world! That is a very nice chest!

Anything you get from him will be top notch for sure. Thank you, I’m a cabinet/furniture maker so it’s not a big deal to me. But I do also pour silver as well. I did a whole run that I sold on this platform.

It's okay, the rug hasn't been pulled yet, so there might still be a chance. I'm not holding my breath though! Yeah, I'll just have to drink my way through the weekend!

I get these daily, and by now assume anything is a 'scam', even when it isn't!

Consensus seems to be that the "team" is basically non existent and this is setting up to be a good old rug pull.

The worst scam of this type I ever got duped into buying was back in 2017 when I bought into an ICO called "Symmetry Fund". It looked totally legit, and it seemed like a really good deal. The coin max supply was extremely low, at around 10 or 11K. They went all out with the website, and did a really good job. I bought 6 tokens at 1ETH each, before the company completely disappeared. Those tokens still sit in one of my ETH wallets as an erc-20 token to remind me.

Yeah, that's about how this one looks like it is going to be. The hype is good and the site is nice. Everything looks great. I should have known better. This one was only $.008 per token, so I got lucky there! They are still running the tiered presale too.

Yeah sorry to hear that. Sometimes you just want to try to get in on a good project early, but it is so hard to tell what is legit sometimes. We don't have unlimited time to investigate everything!

No, we don't. It seems most of these pump and dumps I either get in too late or they fizzle out. Best just to stick with tokens that have an actual use case.

Bay City Bullion is legit and one of the best pourers around. We started together on YouTube along with others here. And although he is "newer" to pouring compared to the others, the quality of his work is superb, and he has surpassed others. I have several of his first pours, and they are precious. Also, he has the resources to pour, which is important to longevity.

Wow, that's awesome. To think he just lives a city over from me. I had never heard of him before, but I am pretty new to all of this. How crazy is that!

Awwww... Jovi. Hopefully you get some answers. The worst thing is not knowing. I can deal with just about anything as long as I know what I am dealing with. I will be thinking of you guys. I know what it is like to feel that uncertain worry like stuff. Give her lots of special attention .. she's earned it.

I've been there.. the moment I know I made a mistake buying something I shouldn't have and poof! It's gone. I have also found that the lessons we learn from it are sometimes worth the price paid. No worries.. like you said, you'll make it back and you won't do that again. or will you... hehehe.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. At this point I am just ready to get it over with. She doesn't travel well and the place we have to take her is about an hour away.
