Behind its incredible beauty, this insect hides many mysteries that might make us think twice before getting too close. In my area, it is commonly known as a paper wasp. Although it is smaller than most other wasps, its sting is extremely painful and highly venomous. Many people see these wasps as a threat, especially when they build their nests in places we frequently pass by. Today, I'd like to share my experience of discovering an entire colony of paper wasps right behind my house.

While a few of my friends and I were picking mangoes behind my house, several wasps suddenly started flying around us. At first, we didn't pay much attention to them because they were relatively small. However, one of my friends pointed out that there was a small paper wasp nest attached to one of the wild plants nearby.That immediately made me concerned, because the larger the nest grows, the greater the danger it could pose.

One of the wasps landed on a wildflower close to where I was standing. Its striking appearance immediately caught my attention. At first, I simply watched it from a distance, but as the moments passed, my curiosity grew, and I decided to move a little closer for a better look.

This wasp has a long and slender body so it looks very graceful. The thing that caught my attention the most was the very slim waist that connects the chest and stomach, a characteristic that makes paper wasps so unique. The color is also very attractive, combining a reddish brown color decorated with bright yellow lines and spots all over its body. This striking color pattern is quite different from that of Vespa wasps, which are generally larger and display a much bolder combination of black and yellow.

This was the wasp nest my friend had pointed out earlier. At the time, it was still quite small and only large enough to accommodate a few wasps. However, paper wasp nests continue to grow over time as the colony expands. In the end, we had no choice but to remove the nest, especially because it was built in a very strategic location that people frequently pass by.Leaving it there would have increased the risk of someone being stung in the future.
