Cherry Tree: Final Results from Summer's End [Bonsai]

IMG_20200802_123405.jpg

Sometimes asymmetry can really enhance the natural beauty of a bonsai tree. Take for instance this wild cherry tree.

Branches are going every which-way. It simple explodes with a flavor for life in every possible direction.

Some old wire marks have aged this tree, to give the bark a wrinkled appearance. In time, as the girth of the trunk expands, the wire marks will fade, becoming only a slight texture change, barely visible.

When I last wired the tree I started to notice certain personality traits of this tree. I've only been growing cherry trees for a couple years, so I am learning as I go.

Eventually I noticed the branches were starting to circle around, and I started wiring it to enhance this tendency. By bending them into forward and reverse wide circles, it develops a natural sense of depth from the front view. Different levels of branch heights become unintentionally more apparent too. Both, excellent traits for a valuable bonsai tree to exhibit.

Overall, another healthy tree in my collection. It responds well to pinching, wiring, fertilizing, and root pruning.

This tree has so much personality emanating from it.

I truly believe this is the type of informal tree which would be ideal in a natural zen garden for prayer and mediation. It us teaches to enhance our strengths while also living in peace and joy with our weaknesses. Develop strength of character to achieve harmony with the world.
