Album of the Day: Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy

Let's go back to the old days of English rock and freedom, motorbikes on highways, rock'n roll in dirty pubs, cheap drugs and concerts in the fields. Back to the beginning of the end of the music industry, back when audio quality actually MATTERED and no one was satisfied with crappy mp3. Back to the vinyl sound, back to the crip, to the thrill of tape recording and making playlists. When beers were cheap, when the youth was wild, when the live music was real!

Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy

A bit more about it:

Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. With their heavy, guitar-driven sound, they are regularly cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal, although their style drew from a variety of influences, including blues and folk music.

Houses of the Holy is their fifth studio album and it was released on 28 March 1973. The album benefited from two band members installing studios at home, which allowed them to develop more sophisticated songs and arrangements, and expand their musical style. Several songs subsequently became fixtures in the group's live set, including "The Song Remains the Same", "The Rain Song" and "No Quarter".

Other material recorded at the sessions, including the title track, was shelved and released on the later albums Physical Graffiti and Coda. All instruments and vocals were provided by the band members Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums). The album was produced by Jimmy Page, and it was mixed by Eddie Kramer.
