Mauro Picotto - A Techno legend from Italy

Italy might not be known for Techno.....

.....However - Mauro Picotto is a legend, even older than myself - and one of the DJs and producers of the genre that added his name to global Techno map. Born in Turin and working with legends such as Eiffel 65 some of his sounds might be a bit commercial so this a kind of combined posts for Techno Friday and Dance Weekend. His sound is named by many fans as "progressive techno" - not sure I agree to that but he is a guy one has to know! Most of you might have heard his chart success "Komodo" back in 2000.

Black Box - Ride on time - his inspiration

The old folks might remember the following song from the Euro Trash times - Mauro always planned to become a producer, after touching base with Daniele Davoli who promoted the following Dance classic, his decision was clear to produce! After he became a DJ - but his aim always producing. The song was a Chartbreaker in Europe in my youth.

He then started producing a lot - one of the first projects he produced under the name "RAF" in 1991 below:

Then he started to become a commercial guru for another Dance creation from Italy called Capella mainly famous for "U Got 2 Let The music".

One major milestone of his career was for sure to become the first ever DJ mixing live during the BBC show "Top of the Pops" in England. He worked with the biggest pop and rock acts remixing such as Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Somerville, U2 or The Petshop Boys.

One of my favourites was his "On The Beach remix" remix that comes closer to my preferred sounds.

As well as "Pulsar"- an upbeat Trance Techno song I danced to in my younger years - long ago lol:

To make this post complete please check some of his live gigs where you can see he created some real hard dance carpets especially in the Netherlands, Germany and Ibiza. Ibiza became his second home by the way which is worth a separate post.

Kurze andere Frage:

Aha I know this big name in Trance, first heard him on Ministry of Sound 2002 Spring Edition I think - back in the days of CDs 😄 Komodo and the OTB remix took me back! What a legend!

Actually the CRW remix inspired my Liquid DnB remix I did - I sent it off to York after he sent me stems and ended up uploading MY remix to HIS soundcloud page! Made my year that did:
