Monday Trance - about the genre and some classics

Trance Sounds - re-introducing a style

I feel bad that I hardly post these days in my own music community, curating keeps me busy as well as real life stuff and other tasks I love to do on this blockchain. But today it is really time again to post a bit about one of my favourite music genres - and also especially happy to see that our German producer @andyjaypowell is more active again. He is a great guy and he actually invented the tag #MondayTrance - and he is really a successful chart Trance / Techno professional while I am simply an admirer and amateur - so kudos again to my friend Andy. Great to see your productions more often.

What is Trance all about?

Given many are totally focused on their dedicated genre and pretty hard in creating borders between Techno, House, Trance, Vocal EDM etc I am more the guy that loves the music as such and even accepts crossovers trials - so I never get into discussion on a dedicated genre family stuff as @edje might know. Bt as we talk Trance we can always look to the source of all source on Wikipedia - so Trance is a German / British mixture it seems if we believe Wikipedia:

Trance is a genre of electronic music that emerged from the British new-age music scene and the early 1990s German techno and hardcore scenes.

Trance music is characterized by a tempo lying between 135–150 bpm (BPM), repeating melodic phrases and a musical form that distinctly builds tension and elements throughout a track often culminating in 1 to 2 "peaks" or "drops". Although trance is a genre of its own, it liberally incorporates influences from other musical styles such as techno, house, pop,chill-out,classical music, tech house, ambient and film music.

WOW - that is a lot to think about - or shall we just dance and enjoy the sounds :-)?

A trance is a state of hypnotism and heightened consciousness. This is portrayed in trance music by the mixing of layers with distinctly foreshadowed build-up and release. A common characteristic of trance music is a mid-song climax followed by a soft breakdown disposing of beats and percussion entirely, leaving the melody or atmospherics to stand alone for an extended period before gradually building up again. Trance tracks are often lengthy to allow for such progression and commonly have sufficiently sparse opening and closing sections to facilitate mixing by DJs.

Trance is mostly instrumental, although vocals can be mixed in: typically they are performed by mezzo-soprano to soprano female soloists, often without a traditional verse/chorus structure. Structured vocal form in trance music forms the basis of the vocal trance subgenre, which has been described as "grand, soaring, and operatic" and "ethereal female leads floating amongst the synths". However, male singers, such as Jonathan Mendelsohn, are also featured.

So now we know what Trance is let the music speak (or sound)

Growing up in these days of British new age and the German Techno movement around Love Parade here (below and above) some of my personal favourites that can be categorized as you want.

In the last months I introduced a lot new DJ's playing in that area, many girls amongst them - today let us get back into time where the new generation of Trance, Tech House, EDM etc celebs were not even born. Curious to hear Hive voices on their opinins and if some of these tracks make you whip your leg at least :-)? Don't be shy and comment.

Well, the question of genres can be rather complicatated, and it seem that personal preferences and opinions play a big part in it. I had my experiences with that over time, also because I tagged my MP3 collection with genres as a sorting criteria.
Sure, there are many tracks that can be clearly desihnated,, but often enough its very hard to decide. Music styles develope, combine existing styles or add new things to existing styles. And there is not even a "official institution" to create new genre names - so I made my own, of which I am the boss: the Beatminister. :) Its cool to be the boss - that way I'm always right, like the Pope... :)

I don't know much about Trance. I know much of I'm not really fond of, but I also know Trance I really love. Like the album done by Tiesto for one of the Innercity events in Amsterdam. Great album, trance mixed with progressive and techno (yes, Tiesto likes Techno, and yes, he played techno before everybody got to know him as a Trance DJ back end of the 90s early 2000). Paul van Dyk is a legend. His (early) Trance is different to what Trance became to be. Owwww, Sasha had a great album out, Trance artist, but d*rn good Trance (in my opinion). The album is called: Airdrawndagger. Check it out :)

You know a lot about all electronic music. I saw Paul so often especially in the early days, remember a night in Mannheim Funkturm, great guy.

Sasha from Wales? Have to admit, new to me, shame on me, checking this out of course.
