Wild trails (visual walk of 13 photos)

Этой седой старик поведёт нас руслу горной реки. Пора после монастыря и парка окунуться в дикую природу.

Arriving in New Athos, we rented a room from an Armenian family. Their house was located in... the Armenian Gorge. That's what it's called. And at its very beginning there is a wonderful place - a wild waterfall. There is a man-made waterfall in the city, which was built by monks more than 200 years ago. We'll take another walk to him.

But this waterfall is located on the Psyrtskha River. And we will walk along the bed of the river Msrakuara or Mysra. I've seen both names on different maps. The local population calls it differently, but I didn't remember the name. The sound is too unusual.

After the waterfall, this river runs straight into the Black Sea through the Armenian Gorge. But we'll go upstream. To do this, you will have to climb the mountains and approach its bed from the side. It is much higher than the waterfall.

This place is called Three Cauldrons. There are also some kind of waterfalls here. But I can't show you from the outside how this water falls down. There is no possibility of descent here. But believe me, this "cauldron" is huge. The photo does not convey its volume. The person below would look no bigger than an ant...

_DSC0863.jpg

And we will turn our backs to this abyss and go upstream.
And the first thing we will meet... a small "wild" cafe or tavern... I do not know what to call it correctly, but here you can eat delicious food and relax if you are tired.

_DSC0893.jpg

But we didn't have time to get tired and just passed by.

This river is now more like a dried-up stream, but do not lose your vigilance. During the rains in the mountains, a stormy stream of water rushes here. It can be very dangerous.

_DSC0877.jpg

I had the feeling that I was in a fairy tale and now there will be forest and mountain Spirits...

My old camera and those photographer skills did not allow me to fully convey the beauty of this place. If I find myself in new Athos again, I will definitely come here and make a full report with landscape and close-ups. There are a lot of interesting things here.

I find the big squares in the rock very interesting

it is said that there was a power station next to an old church and that all this has been built by monks around 1900

maybe it was even older? old world architecture & tech?

georgia appears beautiful to me, I need to see it!

greets :)

Jahrhundert. Aber das ist die offizielle Version. Glaubst du an die offiziellen Versionen? :)

Der neue Athos gehört jetzt nicht zu Georgien. Das ist Abchasien

A square in the rock next to the waterfall (if you mean it) this is the exit of the tunnel for the discharge of water from the New Athos caves. During the rainy season, the water in the underground lakes rises and the excess is discharged through this channel.

Yes, there was also a power plant, they say that it has been restored and supplies the monastery with energy. The monks have done a lot for this town. Waterfall, the basis of the city park with a system of lakes. It dates back to the end of the 19th century. But this is the official version. Do you believe in the official versions? :)

New Athos does not belong to Georgia now. This is Abkhazia

crazy
do you know if there are many big caves?

no, I do not believe in official narratives..
but they often have some clues

I guess more people try to secession, become independent but who defines what and who is independent?

I visited the cave from which this tunnel comes out. These are the famous New Athos caves. But this is only part of the caves to which access is open.

There is another cave to the left of the waterfall, I walked only 2-30 meters and it became completely dark. I didn't go any further, this requires special equipment. I don't have one

In any story (both official and popular), the truth is mixed with fiction. But the official versions are trying to impose false ways on us that are beneficial to someone.

From this point of view, folk stories are more free and more truth can be found in the oral tradition. But you still have to analyze everything carefully...

That seems to be an exciting trail and hike.
but I would be terrified if I see that woodcarving in the middle of the track. looks scary. Imagine taking and grip on a root, and seeing it besides it. !LOLZ !PIZZA

The wooden sculpture was not lying on the path. You can safely go ahead.
It was an open-air exhibit :)
