Monochrome Monday: Buttons Galore

I've been slacking off on getting the other Submarine photos finally up on a post but I needed to get something out there. I've got some extra time alone right now this week, and so I decided to get to some serious writing!

The Submarine we went to was something that the little man loved all the little do-dads and do-hickey's all over the place. He's just like me lol loves a good button to press or a toggle to flip!

I'm still amazed at the number of buttons and switches and shit all over the submarine has! I know that we've come a long way technologically but damn it's incredible to think of this shit! The time that existed before computers like we know today and they were able to design and figure these things out amazes me. I think we definitely take advantage of this stuff nowadays!

There are a lot of different gauges and things throughout the area and I'd love to be able to go back here and take a closer look at these things. I know that I'll have to take the little man by myself because my wife won't be interested in the confined spaces that were in the sub lol she lasted 10 minutes and wanted out, whereas the little man and I were in there for 30 and we got kicked out because it was closing!

That just looks like fun. Which sub was this?

It was the USS Albacore. I wrote about it a while ago which gives some good detail but we haven’t visited it since then where we got to go inside. Inside was amazing! One thing that was incredibly interesting was this was the first submarine in the world that had the modern format that we all know and are familiar with: the nose cone shaped the way it is now. It was all designed and built up here in New Hampshire too! Love learning some local history like that.

Interesting. Reading Tom Clancy novels as a kid got me interested in subs but I'd not heard of this one. The inside shots kinda remind me of the inside of the cab of a diesel train engine, albeit with even less space.

I know later 'research' subs were used for covert ops, I wonder if this one was too?

I think it was used for some covert things for a bit but don’t have concrete proof of that lol.

There was this other beast when we were there as well! This was new and for sale to the public lmao surprisingly enough. Military use for sure but in the brochure it had “pleasure craft model available without weaponization” lol wtf

I'd be more surprised if it wasn't. Reading about the Albacore made me think of the USS Halibut and Operation Ivy Bells.

Holy hell, that thing is a beast. Lol, the only thing I can think of looking at that is 'forged end user certificate,' wonder how many pleasure craft models have had the weaponization added right back?

Every time I see these machines with so many buttons like subs and planes, I just wonder how people manage to pilot them. Like how do you where which button is and what it does, considering there’s soooo many of them.

Hahah yeah for sure! There are so many buttons that I have no idea how they even wrote the manual on what the buttons are! I know that with every section of a submarine you had dedicated people to it so there would always be an expert in the zone. Wild stuff!
