Testing the lens out on my models
Creamy like butter
Right off the bat, one thing I notice about this lens is the buttery smooth blur. Some of the cheaper versions has a very distinct line where you can see the blur beginning from the area that is in focus. What I love about this lens is the fact that it is a super smooth transition from sharp to buttery bokeh.
When shooting wide open, the depth of field is super thin, so it does take a bit of practice to nail the focus. This isn't too difficult to do if your subject is a human and knows to hold still, but when you are taking pictures of your pets, it can get difficult because when you get down at their level and get close to them, they think it is play time and go crazy.
As you can see in the photo above, Harley moved his head right as I was taking the photo and the focus is just a few millimeters on the fur in front of his eye, causing the eye to go just a bit out of focus. That is one reason why some people do not like this lens, because you can miss focus so easily.
When you do nail the focus, it is a pretty magical image that is produced. Even if your model isn't the happiest to have their picture taken. Rusty just wanted to be left alone to relax and not be bothered for pictures.
Anyways, I am hoping to have more pictures over the next little bit as I practice more and more with this lens. Thank you for stopping by. You are awesome.
Man what a look that cat has. They never have the beggar eyes of the dogs. It's like we are the pets of cats, that's how I feel when looking at some of them and their attitude.
Don't let Rusty fool you. He is a beggar just like the dogs.
How this dog is looking.. Sometimes I think that the animals are understanding the Universe more than us.
I wouldn't doubt that.
That is playtime
It's always play time for them around here.
And both your dog and cat are a great model
Thanks. I wonder if they ever get sick of me taking their photo, lol.
Thank you.
Most welcome! Still curious what lens it is? :D
It is the Canon 50mm f/1.2
How does it perform when using continious focus mode ?
It doesnt do too well when it has to keep focusing. I have to turn it off because it is a very slow focusing lens. That was one of the major reasons it took so long for me to get.
As always my eyes got caught by the photography of these cute pets. Love that cat, and dogs ... and WOW ... 50mm f1.2, that's awesome! Can not wait to see more of this lens coming up here.
Thanks. I am looking for more reasons to use it.
Lens looks like it's working pretty good they are superb shots 👍
