A few castles and palaces from Sintra, Portugal (6 pics)

If you go to Sintra, Portugal, you must see the Pena Palace.

It was a royal residence from the 15th to the 19th century and it as been very well preserved.

In the interior, you can admire old furniture and nice pieces of art.

The exterior and the garden are also worth your time.

Since it is not to far from the city center, I would suggest hiking to the castle to be able to see different angle of the castle you can not see otherwise.

The only downside of my visit, to much people.

I was there during low season, I can’t imagine what it is like during summer.

This is Quinta da Regaleira and it is both astonishing and enigmatic, both in terms of its interior and exterior architecture as the garden surrounding it is full of statues, small bridges, caves, towers and fountains to discover.

Built at the start of the 20th century on a former 17th century quinta, this mansion was a family summer residence.

This is the only Portuguese medieval palace, the Palácio Nacional de Sintra.

It is Located in the heart of the old town of Sintra and dominates the landscape with its two conical chimneys.

Founded under Arab rule in the 10th century, to serve as a residence for the Moorish governor, it was then inhabited by the Portuguese monarchs for almost eight centuries.

Since 1910, the National Palace has become state property, but it was not opened to the public until the 1930s.
