Intense ingenuity in Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kyoto, Japan (7 pics)
Kiyomizu-dera or Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera is a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan.
It was constructed in 1633 without any nails.
Intense ingenuity for the realization of this temple which still stands after all this time.
The name of the temple is inspired by the waterfall which is in the middle of the complex as "Kiyomizu" means clear water or pure water in Japanese.
We can see the Otowa waterfall, which is supposed to have powers, under the main hall.
In fact, there are three water channels that fall into a pond from which visitors can grab and drink water and make a wish.
You won't be surprised to learn that there was a long line of people to access it.
The temple complex includes several other shrines.
One of them is the Jishu shrine, dedicated to Ōkuninushi, a god of love and "good matches" which contains a pair of "love stones" which are supposedly used to revealed if one will find true love one day.
The main hall has a large mountainside veranda, supported by high pillars, which affords a nice views of the city.
And if you go to the top, here is the view that you will see.
Too bad I only stayed one day in Kyoto, it look so beautiful.
The food was great and the people so nice.
Lot of history it that city so there is a lot to see and learn.
Until next time!
