Mount Misen, Miyajima, Japan (5 pics)
Mount Misen can be found in Setonaikai National Park, in the city of Miyajima (also known as Itsukushima) and is considered sacred.
We were told the view from the top is great, as it allows you to see the expanse of the Seto Sea all the way to the city of Hiroshima.
We can either take a cable car or hiking trails to reach the top.
The cable car was closed when we were there, all the more reason to take a nice stroll lasting a few hours.
The forest is magical, there are several streams, rivers and lakes and dense vegetation.
You can easily walk on the rocks and see the fish up close.
If you're lucky deer and monkeys can be seen on the path, we weren't so lucky.
Some of the trail is more challenging, but not very difficult.
In 806, the mountain received the visit of the great monk Kobo Daishi Kukai, who is considered the father of Buddhism.
The closer we get to the top, the more we come across temples and spiritual sites that remind us of his passage.
In one of the temples, we can see a fire that would have been lit by him more than 1 200 years ago.
This fire is also the source of the flame of peace in Hiroshima Peace Park.
Unfortunately, I injured myself in a very stupid way before I reached the top and could see all this with my own eyes.
I would have no other choice but to go back one day to finish what I started
