Solar Boat, Giza, Egypt (2 pics)

There is a small but interesting museum at the foot of the Giza pyramids.

The Solar Boat Museum is the house of the Solar Boat that most likely was used to bring the body of Pharaoh Cheops to his last home, the pyramid of Cheops.

Buried for about 4500 years, the funeral bark was only discovered in the 1950s at the foot of the big pyramid.

It is not the only ancient Egyptian ship to have been buried, so it is known to have been intended for use in the afterlife.

It is pretty well preserved for a wood boat that old.

A great restoration work had to be done so that it can be admired today because when it was found, it was broken up into 1224 pieces!

The boat is huge, it is 143 feet long and 20 feet wide and to see it hanging from the ceiling is impressive.

Fun facts, if we put it in the water today, it could sail.

Also, historians are not sure what kind of boat it is because there is no rig to use it as a sailboat and there is no room to be able to paddle.
