Santorini, also called Thira, is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea.

It was destroyed by a volcanic eruption long ago and this has shaped its rugged landscape with beaches composed of black, red and white lava pebbles.

The white cube-shaped houses of its 2 main cities, Fira and Oia, are hung on cliffs overlooking a caldera.

This disaster has given its beautiful rugged landscapes overlooking the Aegean Sea.

The white houses hung on the side of the cliffs gives it its unique character and the black, red and white lava pebble beaches are also to discover.

In Fira, its capital, you will see impressive vertiginous cliffs alongside beautiful white buildings.

It is quite pleasant to stroll through alleys to discover the shops, restaurants and cafes.

There are a lot of great beaches in Santorini.

Going around the island, you can observe special geographical features.

Red and black volcanic pebbles are the most common along the shores of Santorini beaches.

This is Kamari beach, one of the most popular with tourist.

There is not much left of old Thira, but the location is beautiful.

The ancient city is perched on a narrow limestone ridge linking Mount Profitis Ilias to Mesa Vouno, overlooking the sea.

Founded in the 9th century BC By the Dorians, this natural fortress reached its peak under the Ptolemies, but declined under the Romans, before being abandoned in the 13th century.
