The funeral complex of Djeser in Saqqara, Egypt is an important work of Egyptian history because it is the first time that the tomb of the king takes the form of a pyramid.

The beginning of this tradition was born in Saqqara.

Unfortunately, an earthquake in 1992 almost destroyed the site and we cannot visit inside the pyramids.

The funeral complex of Djoser of in Saqqara is not too far from Cairo city.

We can see the Giza pyramids in the background.

The pyramid here is not as impressive but the site is full of history since it marks an important evolution of monumental architecture evolving since the 2nd Dynasty.

We can see a tomb in the shape of a pyramid, the pyramids of Giza are not the only pyramids in Egypt.

The earthquake of 1992 seriously affected the infrastructure of this pyramid, but a safeguarding mission was commissioned by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities to carry out their restorations.

Thanks to that, we can still admire it today.

That pyramid was the ultimate test before manufacturing the pyramids of Cairo.

This is the cobra wall.

These female cobras are a symbol of the monarchy evoking the goddess Ouadjet de Bouto, protector of the North, who embody the protective and destructive power of the pharaoh.

I was more impressed by this pyramid than by the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The site is very calm, we were alone to visit, along with a few horses that where trying to find something to eat.

It was during my last day in Egypt that I decided to go explore this region because I was bored of the city.

I went to the desert to see more pyramids :)
