Trip To Barcelona

The trip to Barcelona was amazing. It's such a cool city and the only thing I wished I had done before going was to learn some basic Spanish.

Copa de cava

Vegetariano. Sin carne, sin pescado. Por favor

Muchas gracias

Un momento

Adios

Those were a few of the phrases we picked up and used while over there. Thank god for google translate, the phone was handy when we needed to say more.

Everyone we encountered were really patient and friendly with us.

A lot of people around the tourist areas spoke Inglese. But, around where we stayed not many people did. We were about a 55-minute walk from The Gothic District.

The number one place we wanted to visit was The Cathedral. La Sagrada Familiar. I have to say though, the pictures really don't do it justice.

The feeling I got when we stepped out of the metro and looked up at the towers of the cathedral was unexplainable. I'm so happy we got to go and see it.

Once we got to the top of the steps, this is what we saw. This was the back of the building, when you have entered the tour, you exit from this side of the cathedral.

I loved all the different statues on the outside of the building. I loved the style of them all, each of the people were very squared and had sharp features and edges.

This is another picture of the back of the cathedral but more to the side of it.

Here is the front of the building where you enter.

The tickets weren't too expensive, it was about 48 euro for two tickets. We didn't get a guided tour, which was a bit more expensive.

The cool thing though was the app they had, which if you downloaded it and put in a set of headphones you would get a tour that way.

We didn't do it, but it was an option.

The ceiling was so high and full of so much detail.

I loved this. The stained-glass windows let in light from the sun which shun the colours on the walls and ceiling.

One thing I couldn't help but wonder when we were here. , When the construction is complete will they remove the fence around the cathedral and let people come and go for free or will they continue to charge?

I assume the latter. The money from the tours all year round must be a lot. Way too much to give up.

After getting out of Sagrada Familiar, we decided to get something to eat and coffee then went to see the Arc De Triomf.

After this, we went around La Rambla and did some shopping headed back to where we were staying to drop the stuff back and headed out for some food and drinks.

End
The weather wasn't really on our side, but it was still pretty warm.

We left on Sunday and got back to Ireland Thursday afternoon. I don't think 4 days was really enough to see everything.

We got to do a few cool things, but, I think when we go over again we'll be staying for a few extra days. I was looking forward to going to the zoo and some of the museums. But, decided not to since we only had a limited time.

I think being thrown into the deep end is the best way to learn. We'll know a lot more for next time and be a bit more confident to speak it.

We were there years ago when the cathedral was a long way off finished. I'll have to go back some time. There's a Hiver there I'd like to meet.

I'll be going back for sure, we went for 5 days but I wish we went for longer. There was tons of stuff we wanted to go and do we just didn't have enough time. I'm glad we didn't rush around though.
