Female Portrait Contest Entry - Dancing in BNW

Years ago I happened to take part in a photography workshop, in which dancing girls were to be photographed.

The project was bold, and I think the idea was great. It was even sponsored by a fat businessman in the capital who had provided the room for the photos - just his boutique shop for very expensive clothes in a very expensive neighborhood of the city. So, what you see in the photos are not decors, but just part of the store.

The businessman's idea was simple - to learn to shoot in one day, for free, because it turns out that he has the same camera with which the workshop was conducted - Nikon D300.

And I had just completed a beginner's photography course at the time, and I could only afford to buy a much lower-end camera than the one mentioned above. Then I owned Canon PowerShot G12.

Well, this is a story that doesn't matter much to the current post.

The workshop took place, but the rest of the idea for the photos - preparing an exhibition, failed for one reason or another. Still, the photos remained.

And here I am with some of them as an entry for this wonderful contest:

Amateur tier

But I hope you'll enjoy them!

Those are pretty crisp photos for catching a dancer in movement! She's got some great facial expressions, too, which really help out. The contrast in the b&w really brings her to the fore, too!

Thank you, @wwwiebe! Capturing the movements of a dancer by an amateur who loves to photograph architecture was quite challenging 🙃🙄

For me, photographing people is the most difficult wing of photography. And as an amateur, I'm unlikely to ever reach who knows what heights in shooting people. So it took me a while to decide to take part in this competition. But your decision to divide the competition into pro and amateur levels is a great idea that gives opportunities to other people, not just the best.
Thank you for the opportunity and for the warm words!

I would tend to agree about the difficulty of photographing people. I haven't been as much into portrait photography until getting more involved here in the community. So, i have a newfound respect for this aspect of the art.

I think that your shots are extremely well done... amateur or not. I can't take credit for the split in categories... but i am also glad if it helps encourage participation! I am super happy you decided to give it a go! Continue to push yourself and practice and who knows what heights you will reach with your skills?!! =)

For people like me, this division really helps. A lot. And you may simply not realize what a psychological boundary this division transcends. And thanks again for your words! They mean a lot!
