Sublime and Beautiful Sunday Playing with light

Sublime and Beautiful Sunday Playing with light

This post is for #SublimeSunday is inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday is initiated by @ace108.

For this post which I hope some may find one or two shots beautiful or sublime, but perhaps more may see them as weird and wonky, but even if I didn't get quite the shots I was hoping for and have for now given up on this idea, I did have fun and get some strange looks when taking these photos

Lets start with my favorite shot I got when trying for these in a few locations.

As I said that is my favorite of this series, that came out somewhat like I was hoping for, catching the light trails of the vehicles lined up with one of the circle I was creating.

Now you may wonder how I was creating those circles, and I will get to that, but let me show you a failed shot that in a weird way I kind of love

Now the shot above was a total failure in my planning as I was starting to spin the string I was holding with glow sticks on the end slipped out of my fingers and both of them went flying through the air, and I had to go and grab them and was just starting to spin when the 30 second exposure finished
creating these funky lines

Now I am curious which one of the first two shots do you prefer?

the one that went as planned, or the opps that went wrong but is still kind of cool one, or alternatively, option 3...

Your crazy give away the glow sticks and get back to normal photos

Ok this next shot shows how I did these shots, as you can see from the shadow my camera is setup on a tripod, and I click the button, walk out in front of the camera and start spinning the glow sticks which were tied onto the end of a piece of string.

I realized after this one I needed to set a 10 second timer before it started to take the photo as you can see the faint circles as I started spinning, and you can faintly see me, so can I count this as a selfie

This next one again you can see the shadow of the tripod, and my legs were actually quite clear so I edited them out, but when I noticed on camera the car lights on the left of this image it gave me the idea to try for what I got in the first image an appearance of the car light trail passing through one of the circles.

and for those who persevered to scroll down this far, here is another one I was fairly happy with how it came out

This next one again shows what happens if you don't set a timer before the camera starts taking the photo, more as a tip if anyone else wants to try this sometime.

in this next one even if not happy how the circles of the glow sticks came out, I do like the building across the water is in one of the circles.

Now this last one is a crazy idea that came to mind, probably because I had been watching the Olympic games recently, and I thought if I stood in the right spots and did circles I could make something close to the 5 Circles of the Olympic symbol.
Why then may you ask are there only three circles.
Well thats because I spun them in the wrong place either two high and they didn't appear well in the sky or I misjudged placement.
Pretty sad really I tried a couple of mornings to do this particular idea, going to a spot setting up the camera and tripod and then taking 5 long exposures spinning a circle for each one

I probably spent an hour or two on this idea, and sadly this image is the best I got.

So although I had fun doing these shots, I have had that fun and will get back to normal photos again for future posts.

that said In the past I did Steel wool spinning which was fun but you really need another person with you to do that, but one day I will try it again

And that’s all folks

For the first two you asked which one we prefer, I would have say I like the second one. But as you pointed out further down, the one you were really happy with was the best, thanks for sharing all of them, I always enjoy seeing your pictures!

I find playing with light fascinating, even when done not exactly as you planned. Dropping the sticks worked out well, in my opinion. :)) A little eclectic and perfect for a #SublimeSunday!

I think you showed off enough for me to know there is potential to play with, but I will have to put a creator hat on and put some thought into it.

I love the potential and think the five rings could be cool! I hope you try that one again!

Well done!! That was fun!

hello ami I love the one that went wrong haha
I have used the light a lot at home and sometimes when it gets dark early in the street, I have moved the camera when I was capturing the photograph and they seem to me to be great photos, so strange and different
happy Sunday
I'm going to prepare my entrance

I don't know how @gunnarheilmann has started his light painting career, but I think it can't have been much different 😉 I have never really tried to take such photos myself, except the times I have more or less unsuccessfully played with the lens ball and some led lights in the bedroom quite a while ago, and so I can only say well done, my friend.

The first shot looks really cool, especially with the light trail of the car that was driving by. You shouldn't have said you were trying to make 5 circles because the 3 look quite good 😀

I hope you're having a nice Sunday JJ 🌞

Yes, he is a master and his work is great. I wouldn't have the patience to plan and take such shots.
If it makes fun you should do it again 😀

I liked the first two, and loved the dark one with the dark blue circle! That one could SO be a cover image for a story :)

These shots are really beautiful. In all honesty, the shots that went wrong produced a beautiful pattern that looks like artwork that was intended. I guess that's how the greatest Patterns came about.

Great shots by the way

oooh I love the second one. I think it's surreal and very artistic. It's as though an energy source had sprung from the ground and was swirling and playing at the water's edge; a Northern lights-esque Earth bound show :-) I love the creativity you employed in coming up with these different shots, even if they didn't all turn out as planned. The art is in the thought creation journey as much as the output. And it looks like you had a lot of fun in the process too. I came to your post via #dreemport
