Remarkable watching brother and sister pigeon growing up on my balcony. Despite losing their parents, they learned how to fly and for a time, would return to visit.

Foraging for food on their own and finding a safe place to sleep is not easy for youngsters, out in the world for the first time on their own. They knew they were welcome to return, until they got the hang of things out there.

As they got older and made more feathered friends the visits grew more infrequent and also more special.

Over time I, who thought I was training them, came to understand that they were training me, to be more patient and gentle. Also, to understand that, as with humans, the bulk of communication is non-verbal. After all, love, joy, sorrow, etc... translate, wordlessly.

This is super cool! I have a squirrel that has been coming and getting some peanuts from me. We haven't bonded as close yet as you and your pigeons... but it's definitely majestic! Thanks for sharing!

Ah, lucky you! I’ve yet to bond with a squirrel 🐿 but admire their quick-wittedness and playful intelligence.

It’s such a privilege when a wild creature gifts us their trust ✌🏼

@castleberry, good to see that past love of wild animals, we have more in common —you’re a fellow artist & not of this world (similar facial hair, too :p

I wonder if you might be interested in collaborating?

If so, happy to hear from you:
