Finding The Pieces ~ Oil Pan Removed

(Edited)

Sometimes when you work on a vehicle you get to a point and you just need to take a break. It’s not that the work is overwhelming... Ok in my case it was a bit overwhelming due to the fact that I have never done anything like this before. Set yourself some goals and when you reach them take a couple day break. In my case I took a week of from working on my 2005 Lincoln Navigator. It is getting a full timing overhaul, oil pump, water pump, A/C compressor, cam sensors, and crank sensor. Then to add to the list of parts being taken off or replaced. I had to remove the oil pan to clean out parts of the timing chain guide that got destroyed and fell down inside.

With this project there has been a whole lot of “While you are in there” parts getting replaced. Trust me, I don’t want to have to get back in there anytime soon. This car has over 160k miles and I feel pretty lucky that this timing chain issue has been the only main issue I have had with this car.

Well I made some more progress, little by little parts are coming off and parts are getting replaced. I found that setting a daily goal takes away that overwhelming feeling from looking at a job this big and complex. There is a lot involved in this and I just hope everything goes back together correctly. :wink:wink

Until Next Time...

I would have lost it and decided to buy a different car by this point.

DAHAHAHA Funny thing is that I have been wanting to get rid of it for a while. But the noisy cam phasers made is sound like an engine knock. I couldn’t sell it to someone knowing repairs needed to be made. Then I heard it startup one morning and it sounded like 10 empty cans of spray pain being shaken. HOLY $#!? For the first 5 seconds then it would go away. You can’t hear it inside the car at all. But outside 😳😳

I don’t know why but this stuff is fun to me... now I wouldn’t want it as a day job... hell to the NO!! I will stick with Linework 😉

As long as you are having fun, then it probably doesn't seem as bad.

Fun, challenging, annoying, PITA, oily greasy, knuckle bust in’ and I am learning something and so is my son. He wasn’t in on the oil pan removal, his cousin was over and they had playing to do. Lol

I am a reluctant mechanic so undertake such endeavors grudgingly. It helps that you enjoy it so it gives you more impetus to finish the project. I had a Subaru that I attempted to repair, ended up trading it in dead after taking the engine out and putting it back in over 30 times trying to get the (now broken) input shaft to seat properly. I had borked it up good. Learned a good bit, but also about broke every tool I have in frustration.

I assume you have the factory repair manual so taking a break makes it easier?
