The Day Has Come ~ The 5.4 Triton V8 is Alive Again

The day has come to finally start up the 2005 Lincoln Navigator that I have been working on for the past month or more. Granted I was only working on it a few hours at a time, a day here and a day there. This is one of the biggest and most extensive automotive repair projects I have ever done. To be able to finally hear that 5.4 liter V8 engine start up and run so smooth was music to my ears.

Here is a quick run down of all the parts replaced on this engine.
  • Timing Chains
  • Timing Chain Tensioners
  • Timing Chain Guides
  • Cam Phasers
  • Water Pump
  • Oil Pump
  • Oil Pan Gasket
  • Oil Filter Adapter Gasket
  • A/C Compressor
  • Crankshaft Sensor
  • Camshaft Sensor(2)
  • Front Cover Gasket
  • Valve Cover Gasket(2)
  • Oil Change and Filter
  • Coolant Drain and Fill

Believe it or not I did all this for right around $2,000 dollars. Not bad considering I have had this vehicle for 10 years and I haven’t had to do much of anything to it as far as repairs. Now take this into consideration when you look at the cost. An automotive shop will charge upwards of $3,000 just to do the timing components. I don’t even want to know how much they would charge to pull the oil pan off....

If you can’t tell by the video I am pretty excited to hear and see this vehicle up and running again. That moment when my wife turned the ignition key over for the first time to prime the oil pump was a bit nerve wrecking to say the least. But when that engine fired up and ran with no hiccups I gave a big first pump and shout shouted “YES!!” in the driveway.

Sorry about repeating myself in the video I was at a loss for words. It’s done, finally done and it runs and runs smooth as silk. I am gonna have to give this one a job well done. Also I wouldn’t have even thought of taking on this project without the guidance of a Ford Mechanic and his YouTube channel found Here.

Now it’s time for the next project, swapping 2005 Ford F-350 axles into my 1997 F-350. Smoother ride, sharper steering, concerting dually rear wheel to single, disc brakes all the way around, plus new tires and wheels. This is gonna be AWESOME!! Stay tuned for this epic project that should be starting soon... I hope....

Hey, don’t be doggin’ on the PBR... LMAO. In all honestly I wouldn’t have attempted this without the Ford Texh providing a good walk though on YouTube. I just hope I don’t have to do anything like this again real soon. Lol. It was challenging, fun, frustrating, and the most important.... educating. I learned a ton when doing this project.

I kept telling my wife, “I don’t ever remember hearing this car sound so smooth!” We have had this car for 10+ years and put nearly 100k miles on it. Besides regular maintenance this is the only “major” thing I have had to fix.
